Roles & Responsibilities

Position Overview:
Registered Nurse in Emergency Department will work as part of the nursing and multidisciplinary teams to provide evidence-based holistic care to patients of Kings College Hospital (KCH) Dubai throughout the patient s pathway of care.
The post-holder will deliver care as directed by senior colleagues and will continue to develop, practice and expand own general and specialist nursing skills; will work with colleagues to ensure high standards of nursing care in the Emergency Department; will maintain high standards of professional and ethical responsibility and be aware of medico legal aspects of the Emergency Department.

Key Accountabilities:

  • The staff nurse will accept delegated responsibility for specific activities/areas from the senior nurse.
  • Delivers a high standard of evidence-based, courteous care to patients at KCH.
  • Adhere to the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) guidelines and maintain active registration.
  • To uphold high standards of care in all departments of KCH.
  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients on an ongoing basis under supervision of Senior Nurses & Team Leaders.
  • To have due regard for each patient s cultural and religious beliefs and to respect each patient s privacy, dignity, gender and sexuality. To actively support the implementation of centre nursing/local strategy and uphold the ethos of the Hospital.
  • Maintain good quality legible contemporaneous patient health records in line with KCH policy on health care record keeping.
  • To maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Being ready to respond and equipped to deal with a variety of Medical Emergency.
  • Treating critical injuries and trauma including wound care and primary closure as requested.
  • To ensure that all patients and their relatives are updated regularly with accurate information and presented in a sensitive way and one that they understand.
  • Support patients, caretakers and relatives and where appropriate involve them in the care of the patients and provide health education to promote healthy lifestyles.
  • Liaises effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in order to ensure that patients needs are met and that services are delivered in accordance with National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and DHA care guidelines.
  • Ensure that relevant information regarding patients needs and condition are communicated to the MDT and that any instructions are acted upon.
  • Ensure safe custody, administration and maintenance of drugs in accordance with district policy and law.
  • To adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the protection of vulnerable adults and children escalating all concerns to the MDT.
  • Have knowledge of the role within policies and procedures relating to Hospital Codes i.e. Cardiac arrest, Mass Casualty Incident, Fire, Bomb alert, Missing person, Violence/Aggressive, Infection Control & Prevention etc.
  • Take responsibility for communicating clearly and accurately in both verbal and written information using the Situation Background Assessment Recommendation (SBAR) process.
  • Demonstrable experience of contributions to quality improvement.
  • Participate in Nursing Audits, Clinical Governance as required
  • Report adverse incidents in line with KCH policy for investigation of incidents and to participate in the investigation process.
  • Work flexibly across the organization as required to maintain safe staffing levels or as identified as a personal development need in the appraisal process.

Education & Qualification

  • UAE Medical Health Authority License (DHA).
  • Bachelor s degree in nursing or Degree in Nursing (minimum two years course duration) And Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.

Experience

  • Has worked in hospital or similar setting for at least 1 year to 18 months - 2 years
  • Able to Multi-tasks well and prioritise care in a fast-paced workplace.

Training & Knowledge

  • Resuscitation Certificate as per the specialty.
  • Demonstrable ongoing and active CPD
  • To participate in regular appraisal
  • Good Computer knowledge
  • Communication skills able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions.
  • Ensure all communication, which may be complex, contentious, or sensitive, is undertaken in a responsive and inclusive manner, focusing on improvement and ways to move forward.
  • Ensure all communication is presented appropriately to the different recipients, according to levels of understanding, type of communication being imparted and possible barriers such as language, culture, understanding or physical or mental health conditions.
  • Problem solving skills able to respond to unexpected issues and provide first line responses and to identify appropriate sources of secondary support.
  • Ability to maintain professional and personal credibility across all staff groups
  • Assist with teaching programme/aid professional development for learners and qualified staff within the clinical area.
