Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Conduct research interviews both in English and Arabic
- Transcribe and translate interviews
- Collate and document records for research progress reports
Research Skills and Competencies
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Strong academic writing skills in English
- Ability to read and summarize academic articles
- Basic knowledge of qualitative research methods (training will be provided)
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to follow research protocols and guidelines
Desired Candidate Profile
Applications are invited for two Research Assistant positions at the Department of English Language & Literature, CAAS, Dhofar University. We are seeking to recruit two Undergraduate Research Assistants to work on an hourly paid contract basis. The successful candidates will be working on a one-year project investigating the perceptions, attitudes and domains of use of the Gulf Pidgin Arabic spoken in Oman. The project is funded by Dhofar University Internal Grant Scheme.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must be a 3rd or 4th year English or translation major student.
- The candidate s CMGPA must be 79% or above.
- The candidate must currently be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student.
- By the time of application, the candidate must have already successfully completed courses related to:
- English for Academic purposes & Research
- Introduction to linguistics/language
- Discourse Analysis
- Sociolinguistics (preferable)
- Morphology, Semantics and Syntax
- The candidate must be willing to work on-site.
