Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Department of Electrical Engineering is seeking applications for two part-time Research Assistants position in Electrical Engineering, with expertise in (1) Solar Energy, (2) Energy Management sytem, and (3) Power line communication.

This role is part of a funded research project titled Development of a Smart Solar Power Plant with Power Line Communication and Energy Management Systems supported by a Research Grant from the University of Balamand (UOB). The project aims to develop a smart solar power plant integrating power line communication (PLC) and energy management systems. It focuses on designing a scalable solar plant, optimizing PLC for real-time data transmission using stochastic modeling, and implementing AI-driven smart energy distribution to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and grid stability

The position is for a one-year term, renewable based on performance. During this period, the Research Assistant will engage in literature review, analytical work, laboratory-scale experimentation, and drafting scientific papers. The role supports ongoing research aimed at advancing next-generation smart grids, enhancing the reliability of renewable energy integration, and optimizing communication, power management, and overall economic feasibility.

Applicants should hold an engineering degree or a master s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. Outstanding candidates from closely related fields, as well as current final-year master s students in Electrical Engineering, may also be considered.

Desired Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications

  • - Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • - or Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline

Desired Experience

  • - Prior experience in renewable energy integration, solar power systems, and Power Line Communication (PLC), particularly in applications related to smart grids
  • - Familiarity with analytical and modeling techniques relevant to system optimization, including stochastic modeling, signal analysis, and data transmission performance evaluation
  • - Experience in data analysis, or AI-based predictive modeling, especially for load forecasting or energy management
  • - Previous involvement in research projects utilizing IoT sensors, real-time monitoring platforms, or energy management systems
  • - Demonstrated ability to prepare technical reports or contribute to peer-reviewed publications related to energy systems, communication technologies, or smart grid applications
  • - Experience working in interdisciplinary or collaborative environments involving electrical engineering, communication systems, and data scienceb>
