Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively coordinating and participating in data collection and fieldwork.
  • Contribute to data entry, management and classification.
  • Coding and analyzing data and related tasks.
  • Carry out other forms of data collection and analysis as required by the needs of the project (both qualitative and quantitative methods).
  • Coordinate, prepare for and attend meetings with community partners including facilitating community outreach activities.
  • Translation and transcription from Arabic to English.
  • Help in preparing progress reports for the funding agency.
  • Assist with preparation of other articles, reports, and presentations as required.
  • Write supporting documents to contribute to and support the work of the project team.
  • Help prepare papers for journals, and presentations at national and international conferences and seminars to disseminate research findings.
  • Task tracking (including utilizing Project management software).
  • Execution of critical support operations and meeting scheduling.
  • Other tasks as directed by the Lead Principal Investigator.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of Masters of Social Work or Psychology or a related field. A clinical background is preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 1 year work experience as a Research Assistant/Associate.
  • Preferred experience as a Research Associate in a full-time grant funded position.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Fluency in English and Arabic, and the ability to conduct project activities orally and in writing in both languages (including translation and transcription).
  • Experience with in-depth interviewing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Qatar and the cultural context.
  • Ability to engage and work with persons across the life span.
  • Experience and proficiency with specialized statistical software including SPSS and qualitive software NVIVO and working with large datasets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency in file organization related to large datasets.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to facilitate activities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Desired Candidate Profile

The successful applicant should have at least a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or any related field with a preferred background in a clinical field. The ideal candidate should have experience working in a full-time research grant position and possess competence in essential administrative skills. The applicant should have a proven working knowledge and experience of conducting literature reviews, advanced qualitative and quantitative research skills, data analysis and writing high quality research papers. The applicant must have excellent attention to detail, organizational and communication skills with a focus on contributing to the collective success of the project. Preference given to candidates in Qatar.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Research Associate to work in a unique and new research project funded until 2027 by the Qatar Research Development and Innovation Council (QRDI) - Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) titled Family Legacy: Developing a Grounded Theory about Intergenerational Family Storytelling in Qatar" led by the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) represented by Dr. Mahasin Saleh the Lead Principal Investigator. The collaborating institution is Qatar University. A key aim of the research project is to explore the function, purpose, and benefits of intergenerational family stories in Qatar to develop a grounded theory about intergenerational storytelling in a diverse Arab context. The successful applicant will be based at the DI. The project will operate within the Research & Grants Department.
