We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong research track record in, and passionate about understanding and improving indoor air quality, quantifying human exposure and contributing to the broader area of environmental health research through innovative sensing applications, exposure assessment and development of relevant solutions.
The successful candidate will support and lead applied research that combines advanced monitoring technologies with exposure science principles to enhance indoor environmental resilience and wellbeing. This role plays a key part in shaping our environmental health initiatives and supporting evidence-based indoor air quality policy, guidelines and standards.
- Lead and support research in developing and applying sensing technologies (low-cost and reference grade) for indoor air pollutant measurement and research.
- Contribute to exposure assessment frameworks, integrating sensor data with occupant behavior, building characteristics, and environmental factors.
- Design and execute field campaigns/experiments in diverse indoor environments (e.g., schools, residential, workspaces, commercial settings) to assess pollutant levels and exposure levels .
- Develop protocols for the deployment and calibration of a range of low-cost sensor technologies in indoor environments.
- Lead the analysis and interpretation of IAQ data, with relevance to human health, regulatory guidance, and building standards.
- Work across disciplines to develop solutions to improve IAQ in selected environments, reduce exposure and integrate research outcomes into national air quality and environmental health programs.
- Disseminate research findings through scientific publications, stakeholder reports, and policy-relevant outputs.
- Support the development of tools, protocols, or platforms to advance real-time IAQ monitoring and risk-informed decision-making.
- Engage in capacity building and stakeholder outreach, including technical reporting and knowledge transfer to public institutions, policymakers, and building managers.
- PhD in a relevant scientific or technical field such as Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Public Health, Atmospheric Science, Sensor Technology, Environmental Science, or related areas.
- Demonstrated expertise in either indoor air quality sensing (e.g., sensor systems, calibration, data analysis) and/or exposure science (e.g., monitoring, risk assessment, IAQ standards).
- Ability and willingness to engage across disciplines to support integrated IAQ and exposure research.
- Experience in designing or conducting field measurements, sensor evaluations, or IAQ assessments.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, IGOR Pro or equivalent platforms.
- Proven record of peer-reviewed publications and contributions to environmental research or applied health studies.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, including experience engaging with national stakeholders, regulators, or multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience applying or interpreting international indoor air quality guidelines (e.g., WHO, ASHRAE).
- Track-record in developing and/or assessing solutions to improve IAQ.
- Familiarity with indoor pollutants such as particulate matter, VOCs, CO , or formaldehyde.
- Background in arid climate environments or built environment sustainability.
- Experience with science-policy interfaces, including developing technical inputs for environmental health guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to secure research funding, lead collaborative projects, and manage deliverables.
