Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Supervision: The Resident Engineer leads and manages the entire site supervision team, including Assistant Resident Engineers, Inspectors, and other specialists. They delegate tasks, provide technical guidance, and ensure the team is working effectively to monitor all construction activities.
- Safety and Quality Control: They are ultimately accountable for ensuring that all work on site is carried out to the highest standards of quality and safety. This includes ensuring adherence to the project's Health and Safety plan, as well as Dubai Municipality (DM) regulations.
- Progress and Reporting: They continuously monitor the project's progress against the approved program, identify any potential delays, and implement corrective actions. They also prepare and present comprehensive weekly and monthly progress reports to the client and Stantec's senior management.
- Document Review: The Resident Engineer is the final reviewer and approver for critical project documents, including contractor shop drawings, method statements, material submittals, and as-built drawings. This ensures all work is technically sound and aligns with the original design.
- Contract Administration: They have in-depth knowledge of the project's contract (often FIDIC). They are responsible for administering change orders, variation orders, and claims, and for certifying the contractor's monthly progress payments.
- Issue Resolution: They act as the primary point of contact for resolving complex on-site issues and technical problems. They work closely with the design team and the contractor to find practical solutions that don't compromise the project's integrity.
- Client Liaison: The Resident Engineer serves as the main point of contact for the client, regularly updating them on the project's status, managing their expectations, and representing Stantec's interests.
- Authority Coordination: They liaise with various local authorities in Dubai to secure necessary permits, approvals, and clearances for the project.
- Team and Contractor Management: They chair all project-related meetings, facilitating communication between the supervision team, the contractor, and other stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and collaborative work environment.
