Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Wood is recruiting for a Safety Officer to join its Iraq business unit focusing on providing on-site safety support to ensure compliance with safety procedures and promote a safe working environment for a Major Onshore Brownfield Project in Basra, Iraq on 5/2 work schedule.
This role is a full-time on-site role in Basra, Iraq with travel requirement.

Job Objectives:
Provide on-site safety support to ensure compliance with safety procedures and promote a safe working environment. Assist in daily inspections, hazard identification, and implementation of safety measures under the guidance of the Safety Section Head.
Worksite:
Conduct daily safety patrols and inspections.
Identify and report unsafe conditions or practices.
Support operational teams and contractors in applying safety procedures.
Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Assist in incident response and basic investigations.
Conduct Gas Testing (Atmospheric Checks)
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain daily safety checklists and observation reports.
Record minor incidents and near misses.
Support the preparation of weekly safety summaries.
Coordination:
Coordinate with site supervisors and safety team members.
Communicate safety concerns and follow up on corrective actions.
Training:
Participate in safety inductions and awareness sessions.
Reinforce safety messages during daily operations.
Managing teams:
Not applicable (supportive role only).
Audit and Inspections:
Assist in routine site inspections.
Report findings to Safety Supervisor or Advisor.
Contractors Management:
Monitor contractor compliance during daily activities.
Report unsafe behaviors or conditions.
Safety Support:
Support safety campaigns and initiatives on-site.
Promote a positive safety culture among workers.
Training:
Basic understanding of safety training and awareness.
Ability to reinforce safety practices on-site.
Leadership and Management Skills:
Not applicable (entry-level supervisory support).
Communication skills:
Good verbal communication skills.
Able to report safety issues clearly.
Working environment:
Comfortable working outdoors and in high-risk environments.
Able to respond quickly to safety concerns.
Inspection Skills:
Capable of conducting basic safety checks and observations.

Expected:
Minimum 3 years of experience in safety-related roles, preferably in oil & gas or construction environments.
Standards:
Familiarity with basic safety standards and site rules.
Understanding of company safety policies.
Analytics skills:
Basic reporting and observation recording skills.
Familiar with Microsoft Office tools.
Certifications:
Basic computer literacy (Excel, Word).
NEBOSH /Other related safety certificates
