Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

You must be able to lead and motivate a team with care, enthusiasm, honesty and your natural love of retailing must be accompanied by a real interest in the educational toy market with an ability to react quickly and work under pressure. Your commercial awareness and understanding of the UAE marketplace will help drive sales while positioning ELC as the premier educational toy specialist. You will be able to demonstrate a track record in coaching and people development with cultural sensitivity for our diverse UAE team and customer base. You will also adopt a hands-on approach and demonstrate a desire to lead from the front of the shop floor, acting as the educational toy expert and ambassador for child development through play.

  • This is an active role requiring manual handling and mobility.

  • This role is shop floor focused with emphasis on educational toy expertise.

  • To be flexible during busier trading periods including Eid celebrations, Dubai Shopping Festival, and peak seasons.

  • Eligible for UAE residence visa (company will arrange visa processing).

  • Minimum High School Certificate or equivalent.

  • English language proficiency essential - will be tested at interview along with basic numeracy.

  • Arabic language skills preferred but not essential.

  • Commitment to complete 6-month probationary period and mandatory Induction Book.

  • One rotating day off per week and UAE national holidays given in lieu.

Sales & Customer Service

  • Deliver outstanding customer service by 'Asking Brilliant Questions' and acting as an educational advisor.

  • Be knowledgeable about child development stages (0-8 years) and offer expert advice on age-appropriate toys.

  • Understand and explain ELC's developmental icons and how toys support children's learning.

  • Engage with diverse families from local and expatriate communities with cultural sensitivity.

  • Maximise sales through educational guidance and expert product recommendations.

  • Achieve individual KPIs including demonstration sales targets, battery sales, and carrier bag sales.

  • Cash Handling: Operate the till, process transactions, and handle cash or card payments accurately.

  • Receive, unbox, and verify new inventory deliveries against packing slips.

  • Price and tag merchandise according to store guidelines

Cash Handling & Till Operations

  • Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently through till points.

  • Handle money responsibly and follow all cash handling procedures.

  • Explain current promotions and offers to customers during checkout.

  • Ensure transaction accuracy and proper documentation.

Product Demonstration

  • Actively participate in demonstrating products, highlighting educational features and benefits.

  • Showcase how toys support child development through hands-on demonstrations.

  • Maintain demonstration areas and ensure demo products are in working order.

  • Convert demonstrations into sales through effective educational explanations.

Merchandising & Visual Standards

  • Maintain assigned section to ELC's premium visual merchandising standards.

  • Use age-based merchandising system to create attractive, educational displays.

  • Merchandise commercially and effectively using ELC's educational focus.

  • Ensure products are properly labelled, priced, and presented.

  • Keep assigned areas clean, organized, and fully stocked.

Store Operations & Support

  • Assist with handling deliveries and maintenance of stock room areas.

  • Carry out routine tasks such as price changes, stock checks, and housekeeping.

  • Follow company security procedures and help reduce shrinkage risk.

  • Maintain safe working environment in accordance with health and safety requirements.

  • Support peak trading periods and cultural events specific to UAE.

  • Complete tasks within time constraints set by management team.

Housekeeping & Store Maintenance

  • Daily Maintain store cleanliness by regularly sweeping and cleaning the sales floor.

  • Daily Wipes down gondolas, shelves, and displays to ensure merchandise and fixtures are dust-free.

  • Daily Perform general housekeeping duties to uphold the store's presentation and hygiene standards.

  • Flexibility: Prepared to work in UAE retail environment including Fridays, weekends, Ramadan adjustments, and peak trading periods.

  • Teamwork: A good team player who understands the need to work together and support colleagues in delivering exceptional educational toy retail experience.

  • Cultural Adaptability: Comfortable working in multicultural UAE environment and serving both local and expatriate communities with appropriate sensitivity and respect.
