Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Job Purpose:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing daily accounting operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, pharmaceutical industry regulations, and internal financial policies. This role supports decision-making by providing accurate financial reporting, analysis, and recommendations to management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare, review, and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS/GAAP and local tax regulations.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals, reconciliations, and adjustments.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate posting of all transactions.
  • Monitor and reconcile inventory accounts, including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Work closely with the supply chain and production teams to ensure accurate costing of pharmaceutical products.
  • Conduct variance analysis (standard cost vs. actual cost) and report findings to management.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
  • Track and report budget vs. actual performance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide financial insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical industry regulations, local tax laws, and corporate policies.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary schedules and documentation.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls.
  • Supervise reconciliation of vendor accounts and timely payment processing.
  • Monitor receivables aging and coordinate with the sales team for collections.
  • Ensure proper documentation for credit notes, rebates, and discounts.
  • Mentor and support junior accountants and finance staff.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, marketing, regulatory affairs, supply chain) to align financial activities with business needs.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CMA preferred).
  • Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP, taxation, and cost accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and MS Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  1. Timeliness and accuracy of financial statements.
  2. Variance analysis and recommendations implemented.
  3. Audit findings (minimal non-compliance issues).
  4. Accuracy of inventory valuation and cost control.
  5. On-time completion of monthly/quarterly closing.
