Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Our newest opportunity is for a talented Senior Civil Engineer (Hydrology and Water Resources) to join our award-winning team based in Jordan. Distance work can be considered if the candidate is based in their home nation (Outside of the GCC).
This critical role will work as part of the Design Review & Technical Services Team, having a strong technical design background with some hands-on experience in the field (site). Experience in large-scale urban infrastructure and flood management projects across the Middle East desired.
The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and verifying hydrological and hydraulic designs, ensuring technical soundness, compliance with regulatory requirements, and alignment with best engineering practices.
This role requires advanced technical expertise in stormwater management, urban drainage design, flood mitigation, and water resilience, coupled with a strong understanding of KSA and other GCC urban infrastructure development projects
We envisage success in this role to include:
- Leading and undertaking independent technical reviews of design documentation related to urban drainage, stormwater management, and flood protection systems.
- Assessing the hydrological and hydraulic design basis, methodologies, and assumptions used in consultant and contractor submissions.
- Reviewing flood risk assessments, master drainage studies, and stormwater network models to verify adequacy, accuracy, and resilience of design solutions.
- Evaluating surface water drainage networks, including storm sewers, culverts, outfalls, and retention/detention facilities for performance, safety, and sustainability.
- Critically assessing hydraulic and hydrological modeling outputs (HEC-RAS, SWMM, MIKE URBAN, InfoWorks ICM, or equivalent) to ensure correct interpretation and application.
- Reviewing designs for flood control structures, including channels, embankments, weirs, and energy dissipation systems.
- Evaluating urban flood mitigation strategies, including green infrastructure, sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS), and low-impact development (LID) features.
- Examining climate resilience measures and assess how flood management systems account for extreme rainfall and future climate variability.
- Supporting value engineering and risk management reviews, identifying technically sound and cost-effective design improvements.
- Preparing technical review reports, comment registers, and compliance summaries in accordance with established review procedures.
- Coordinating with multidisciplinary peer review teams (transport, geotechnical, environmental, structural, and infrastructure specialists) to ensure coherent and integrated design assessments.
- Advising clients on design adequacy, operational reliability, and long-term maintenance implications of urban water infrastructure.
- Participating in design coordination meetings, workshops, and technical presentations to communicate review findings and recommendations.
Desired Candidate Profile
To be successful in this dynamic opportunity, we envision that you will have a minimum of a Bachelor s Degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrology, or Water Resources Engineering.
Master s degree in Hydraulic Engineering, Urban Water Systems, or Flood Risk Management preferred.
Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 5 years in the Middle East (KSA experience preferred).
Proven experience in urban drainage, stormwater management, flood control systems, and hydrological modeling.
Proficiency in hydraulic and hydrological modeling software (HEC-RAS, SWMM, MIKE URBAN, InfoWorks ICM, or equivalent).
Strong knowledge of GCC regional design standards, drainage manuals, and environmental regulations.
Demonstrated capability in reviewing and validating complex hydraulic analyses and stormwater infrastructure designs.
Excellent analytical, communication, and technical writing skills.
Chartered or Professional Engineer status (CEng, PE, CIWEM, or equivalent) preferred
Strongly preferred attributes:
- Experience in peer review or design assurance roles for major urban infrastructure or flood management programs.
- Strong ability to identify design deficiencies, risks, and opportunities for technical optimization.
- Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement and report presentation capabilities.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple concurrent design reviews.
