Wood is currently sourcing for a strong> Senior Development Geologist/strong> (Local National) to strengthen our team in Basra Iraq on 5 days on 2 days off rotation. This is a full-time onsite position based in Basra, Iraq./p>

strong>Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:/strong> /p>
- Coordinate multi-functional teams in developing and maintaining drilling rig schedule on a weekly basis to generate well paths consistent with contractual drilling specifications to achieve wellbore objectives.
- Lead for annual new wells placement programme and 5-yr planning
- Preparation of pre-drill documents including detailed drillwell prognosis charts and formation evaluation program.
- Conduct detailed real-time log correlations of actively drilling deviated and horizontal wells to ensure stratigraphic intervals are properly identified and well trajectories are adjusted as needed.
- Liaison between well-site geologists and office team at all stages of drilling projects. Attend drilling rig calls and meetings.
- Ensure all aspects of well-site geological operations are properly undertaken to ensure drillwell objectives are safely met.
- Provide rig tendering contract preparation with formation evaluation comments.
- Ensure geological well data are compiled in a timely manner, properly distributed, and placed in appropriate digital well files.
- Geologic model interrogation, integration of various geologic and surveillance data, in support of ongoing drill well, workover planning and new well candidate revalidation.
- Modify structural modeling by seismic & well interpretation in support of Geologic Model building, drilling opportunity identification and drillwell planning (post-drilling analysis based on actual drilling result, surface mapping updating, attribute analysis updating, fault mapping updating, geobody extraction, QC on new acquired seismic data interpretation, etc.)
- Prepare new well and special workover post analysis.
- Contribute to future appraisal and data acquisition planning for undeveloped reservoirs (drilling locations, major uncertainties, data requirements)
- Core proposal and analysis in geology and attribute updating.
- Mentor Iraq staff on Geologic concepts, geophysics and geomodel interrogation
- Support water injection analysis and injection optimization discussion from geological ideas.
- Provide geological/seismic maps for new well completion proposal discussion and other development activities

strong>Expected:/strong> /p>
- Master s degree or equivalent in geological sciences.
- 15+ yrs work experience in Petroleum Geology and Geophysics.
- Carbonate geology/geophysics background highly preferred.
- Previously conducted integrated field and reservoir studies working closely with geophysicists, petrophysicists, reservoir engineers, and drilling.
- Experience in Middle East Giant Carbonate reservoir will be beneficial
- Advanced Petroleum Engineering skills for Geologist
- Communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in written and spoken English. Strong presentation skills.
- Formation evaluation Experience mentoring less experienced staff.
- Critical thinking. Must be able to find solutions to challenges, not just simply identify problems/issues.
- Knowledge of carbonate sequence stratigraphy and advanced reservoir characterization concepts.
- Familiar in well completion and workover geology and production support.
- Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint.
- Petrel Geophysics and model interrogation experience.
- Petrophysics: experience in log analysis Techlog software.
