Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Open-Pit Geological Mapping & Ore Control:
    Conduct continuous geological mapping of pit walls and benches to identify ore zones, lithological contacts, and structural features.
    Monitor daily production to ensure selective mining of ore and minimize dilution.
    Supervise and guide grade control drilling, sampling, and interpretation for accurate ore boundary definition.
  • Blast Hole Sampling & Analysis:
    Oversee the collection, logging, and analysis of blast hole samples.
    Coordinate with mining and blasting teams to align drilling patterns with orebody geometry.
    Interpret geochemical data to create bench plans for ore and waste classification.
  • Mine-Scale Geological Modeling:
    Update and refine 3D geological models in alignment with pit development.
    Use mine planning software (e.g., Surpac, Leapfrog) to support short-term and long-term mine planning.
    Provide input for block models and assist in resource estimation and reconciliation.
  • Reconciliation & Reporting:
    Compare planned vs actual production (tonnage and grade) and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation reports.
    Identify variances in production and propose corrective actions to optimize recovery.
    Ensure documentation and reporting meet internal QA/QC protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Geotechnical Observations & Slope Monitoring:
    Record geotechnical features such as joint sets, faults, and rock mass behavior for pit wall stability analysis.
    Liaise with geotechnical engineers to monitor slope conditions and support safe pit design.
  • Environmental & Regulatory Compliance:
    Ensure geological activities support the environmental management plan and regulatory guidelines.
    Prepare geological data and reports for submission to the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and other relevant authorities.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, with a focus on hard rock exploration or chromite mining.
  • Prior experience working in Oman’s geological terrain is highly preferred.
  • Strong technical skills in geological interpretation and modeling.
  • Proficient in software such as Surpac, Micromine, Leapfrog, or similar.
  • Familiarity with drilling, sampling, and core logging techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Arabic is a plus.
  • Strong HSE awareness and commitment to sustainable mining practices.
