Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior Project Consultant – Solar PV projects plays a key role within Fichtner in delivering high‑quality technical advisory services for utility‑scale Solar PV developments, with increasing involvement in hybrid configurations (PV + BESS) across Saudi Arabia and other international markets.

This position is intended for a seasoned professional who combines solid engineering foundations with projects execution awareness, contractual understanding, and practical judgement. The role goes beyond pure analysis: it requires the ability to solve real‑world project challenges, support informed decision‑making, and guide clients through complex project phases under demanding timelines.

Operating at the core of Fichtner’s project delivery teams, the Senior Project Consultant acts as a reliable technical reference for clients, coordinating with internal specialists and international teams while maintaining a clear focus on deliverability, risk, and value.

The role suits professionals who prefer hands‑on problem solving over academic abstraction, who are comfortable working under time pressure, and who appreciate exposure to both local Saudi projects and international assignments within a globally recognized independent engineering consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

Project Advisory & Technical Delivery

  • Act as Senior Consultant / Owner’s Engineer for Solar PV projects across development, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.

  • Lead or review feasibility studies, conceptual and basic designs, technical specifications, and performance assessments.

  • Support PPP and EPC tendering processes, including preparation of technical requirements, bid evaluation, clarifications, and negotiations.

  • Review and manage technical aspects during execution, including design reviews, site monitoring, testing, and acceptance.

  • Support clients in resolving technical, contractual, and execution‑related issues efficiently and pragmatically.

Hybrid Systems & Technology Exposure

  • Contribute to technical assessments and optimization of PV + BESS configurations, focusing on performance, operability, and lifecycle value, is an advantage.

  • Maintain active awareness of evolving PV, storage, and power plant technologies, with a practical view on bankability and risk.

    Client Interface & Business Support

    • Act as a reliable technical counterpart to developers, investors, lenders, and public clients.

    • Support proposals, technical offers, and expert inputs for KSA and international assignments.

    • Collaborate closely with internal specialists and international Fichtner teams.

  • Market Exposure

    • Primary engagement in the Saudi Arabian and GCC renewable energy market, including large‑scale and strategic programs.

    • Exposure to international renewable energy projects across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe through Fichtner’s global network.

    • Opportunity to work within multicultural, multi‑disciplinary project teams.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy, or Power Engineering.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in utility‑scale Solar PV projects, ideally within consultancy, owner’s engineering, or technical advisory roles.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with typical contractual and commercial frameworks, including:

o EPC and multi‑package contracting

o O&M contracts

o Power Purchase Agreements (PPA)

o Asset and technical management contracts

  • Solid understanding of project risk allocation, interfaces, and technical obligations across the project lifecycle.

  • Hands‑on experience with engineering and simulation tools commonly used in PV projects (e.g. yield assessment, performance modelling, layout tools).

  • Contributed to technical assessments and optimization of hybrid (e.g., PV + BESS) configurations, is an advantage.

  • Openness and affinity to digitalization, including data‑driven approaches, advanced analytics, and emerging AI‑supported engineering and project tools.

  • Experience in the Middle East is highly valued; KSA and GCC experience is a strong advantage.

Key Attributes & Mindset

  • Pragmatic problem‑solver: able to take decisions, propose workable solutions, and move projects forward without over‑theorizing.

  • Flexible and creative thinker, comfortable adjusting approaches to project realities rather than applying rigid templates.

  • Strong sense of priorities, time management, and delivery, with the ability to work efficiently under time pressure.

  • Results‑oriented professional who values clear outcomes over academic perfectionism.

  • Confident communicator, capable of engaging with clients, contractors, and internal experts in a constructive and solution‑driven manner.

  • High level of professional integrity, reliability, and ownership.

Language Skills

  • Fluency in English is mandatory.

  • Arabic is a strong asset.

  • Additional languages are a plus and valued in international assignments.

What Fichtner Offers – Beyond the Position

In addition to competitive remuneration aligned with seniority and experience, Fichtner offers a professional environment that experienced consultants value over the long term:

  • Meaningful technical autonomy: senior consultants are trusted to exercise judgment, shape solutions, and influence project outcomes rather than simply execute predefined methodologies.

  • Exposure to complex, non‑standard projects where technical, contractual, and execution challenges require intelligent adaptation rather than textbook solutions.

  • Direct access to international expertise through Fichtner’s global network, enabling peer‑level collaboration with specialists across Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.

  • Balanced consulting culture combining engineering rigor with pragmatism, where efficiency, clarity, and delivery matter more than excessive formalism.

  • Professional credibility: working within a well‑established independent engineering consultancy recognized by developers, investors, lenders, and public institutions worldwide.

  • Long‑term professional perspective offering stability, diversity of assignments, and sustained exposure to the energy transition at utility scale.

This role is particularly suited to professionals seeking substance, influence, and professional respect, rather than purely hierarchical or sales‑driven environments.

Application & Candidature Submission

Fichtner is interested in experienced professionals with a clear point of view, not anonymous or generic resumes.

Applicants are therefore kindly requested to submit:

  • A concise CV highlighting relevant projects experience and responsibilities, and

  • A brief motivation note (cover letter or equivalent, max. 1–2 pages) addressing:

o The type of projects and challenges you have been most involved in

o How you typically approach complex technical or execution‑driven problems

o Why a senior consulting role within Fichtner’s renewable energy practice is of interest to you

Submissions consisting solely of generic CVs with no contextual explanation may not be considered.

All applications will be treated with strict confidentiality.
