Senior QA/QC Engineer (Steel & Coating) Estithmar Holding

Job Purpose

The Senior QA/QC Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all steel fabrication, coating, and site activities are executed in compliance with approved specifications, international standards, and client requirements. The role ensures delivery of high-quality work through strict implementation of QA/QC systems, inspection processes, and continuous monitoring of project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Management & Compliance

• Oversee quality control across all phases of steel fabrication, structural works, and coating activities.

• Ensure full compliance with project specifications, ITPs, method statements, and approved drawings.

• Implement and monitor QA/QC plans aligned with ISO 9001 and international standards.

• Ensure only latest revisions of drawings and documents are used; remove obsolete versions from site.

Inspection & Testing

• Prepare and manage Work Inspection Requests (WIRs) and coordinate with consultants for approvals.

• Ensure inspections are completed prior to submission to achieve high first-time approval rates.

• Monitor and verify all testing activities, reports, and calibration records.

• Maintain complete QA/QC documentation including NCRs, test reports, and inspection logs.

Steel & Material Quality Control

• Inspect incoming steel materials and verify mill certificates and compliance.

• Ensure traceability and documentation of all structural steel components.

• Monitor fabrication processes including welding, cutting, and assembly.

Coating & Painting Inspection

• Supervise surface preparation activities such as abrasive blasting and cleaning.

• Conduct coating inspections using tools such as:

  • DFT gauges, WFT gauges

  • Hygrometers, dew point meters

  • Surface profile gauges

  • Holiday detectors & adhesion testers

  • Bresle kits (soluble salts testing)

• Ensure compliance with project-specific coating systems and standards (ISO, SSPC, NACE, ASTM).

• Review painting procedures, ITPs, MSDS, and inspection reports.

Site Quality Control

• Monitor workmanship on site and ensure compliance with approved procedures.

• Conduct toolbox talks and quality briefings for site teams.

• Track WIRs, NCRs, and corrective actions and report status to management.

• Ensure proper inspection of materials before installation/use.

Concrete & Structural Activities (if applicable)

• Monitor concrete works including slump tests, temperature checks, and sampling.

• Maintain daily pour records and ensure compliance with approved mix designs.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate QA/QC records and prepare monthly quality reports.

• Ensure all inspection and test records are readily available for audits.

• Manage NCRs and ensure timely closure with corrective/preventive actions.

Project Closeout

• Conduct snagging and punch list inspections prior to handover.

• Coordinate with project teams to ensure timely closure of all quality issues.

Qualifications & Certifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering or relevant technical field

• NACE CIP Level II / BGAS Grade 2 (preferred/required for coating scope)
