Job Description

The Senior Quantity Surveyor plays a crucial role in the construction and real estate industries, focusing on the effective management of costs and value for large-scale projects. This position involves not just cost estimation, budgeting, and financial control, but also ensuring that projects meet legal and quality standards while adhering to timelines. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with clients, contractors, and teams to advise on project feasibility, conduct risk assessments, and implement cost-saving strategies. This role requires not only in-depth technical knowledge and proven expertise in quantity surveying but also exceptional communication, negotiation, and project management skills to deliver successful outcomes and enhance client satisfaction. The Senior Quantity Surveyor is pivotal in ensuring financial efficiency and integrity throughout the project lifecycle.


Responsibilities
  • Prepare and manage detailed cost estimates and project budgets from inception to completion.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis and cost reporting to enhance project performance.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers and subcontractors ensuring optimal value.
  • Lead the procurement process, including preparing tender documents and evaluating bids.
  • Monitor project progress and financial expenditures to ensure alignment with budgets.
  • Identify potential financial risks and propose strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Oversee measurement and valuation of completed work, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders, including clients, architects, and engineers.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations on project costs and financial status for stakeholders.
  • Mentor and guide junior quantity surveying staff to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for improving cost-effectiveness across all projects.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry.
  • Membership with a professional body such as RICS or CIOB preferred.
  • Proven expertise in managing large-scale construction project budgets and costs.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement methods, and legal standards.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with diverse project teams.
  • Proficiency in relevant software such as CostX, Bluebeam, and project management tools.
