1. JOB DETAILS:
Position Title: Coordinator: Production Operations

2. OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
Provide technical leadership (specific plant/operations) to ensure continuous, effective and efficient plant/production operations through the control and operation of chemical processes, systems and/or machines, with strict adherence to safety and operational regulations, rules and procedures
3. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Formal Production/Process qualification (e.g. National Diploma, Tech, MTech)

- Proficient knowledge of applicable engineering technologies

- Sound knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
- Advanced knowledge of machines, tools and equipment, including their designs, uses, repair, and first line maintenance
- Advanced knowledge of policies, rules, processes and procedures
- Highly competent in using applicable industrial control software and/or systems
- Highly competent in troubleshooting and implementing corrective actions

- Control machines and processes and provide guidance and advice to other operators
- Provide input, advice and recommendations to management and engineering colleagues to resolve problems and optimise plant/process operations
- Analyse and interpret information (in consultation with Technician/Engineer) and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems
- Oversee processes and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess evidence of operating problems
- Identifying information by categorising, estimating, recognising differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events
- Inspect and oversee inspection of equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects
- Oversee or operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using panel boards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment
- Control or maintain auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, fans, compressors, condensers, feedwater heaters, filters, or chlorinators, to supply water, fuel, lubricants, air, or auxiliary power
- Control power generating equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, or reactors, using control boards or semi-automatic equipment
- Advice on and move control settings to start, stop or make necessary adjustments on machinery and equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, or yields, etc.
- Leading role in start and shut down and start-up of plant equipment following due processes and procedures
- Oversee transportation and storage of flammable and other potentially dangerous products to ensure that safety guidelines are followed
- Monitor recording instruments, flowmeters, panel lights, gauges, dials or other indicators and listen for warning signals to verify conformity of process conditions
- Monitor equipment functioning, observe temperature, level, and flow gauges, and perform regular unit checks to ensure that all equipment is operating as it should, safety, and efficient operation, and to pro-actively detect malfunction
- Control operation of compressors, scrubbers, evaporators, and refrigeration equipment to liquefy, compress, or regasify natural gas
- Record, review, and compile operations records, test results, and gauge readings such as temperatures, pressures, concentrations, and flows
- Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations following protocol
- Inspect/lead inspection of operating units, such as towers, soap-spray storage tanks, scrubbers, collectors, or driers to ensure that all are functioning and to maintain maximum efficiency
- Contribute ensuring compliance to HSERQ requirements
- Oversee use of energy production equipment
- Oversee use of pumping systems or equipment
- Perform (senior) standby duty
- Active member of (special) projects teams
