Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Policies, Processes & Procedures

    • Implements approved departmental policies, systems, processes, procedures, and controls covering all areas of the Environment department so that all relevant procedural and legislative requirements are adhered to while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner.

    Day-to-Day Operations

    • Supervises the implementation of the day-to-day operations assigned for the Environment department to ensure compliance with established policies, processes, and procedures.

    Investigation & Reporting

    • Supervises the effective implementation of the incident investigation process and undertakes, as necessary, investigations and reporting of environmental incidents (in conjunction with appropriate agencies where required) in a timely and accurate manner, and makes recommendations based on the outcomes of such incidents.

    • Conducts environmental impact assessments for project and operational activities.

    • Develops, reviews, and implements the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) management program, including GHG data collection, analysis, and reporting.

    • Conducts internal GHG assurance audits and supports the preparation of facilities for third-party GHG audits.

    • Keeps abreast of international and regional regulations related to emissions, waste management, water and wastewater, and GHG to ensure alignment with compliance standards.

    Training & Embedment

    • Plans, organises, and conducts a wide range of environmental training courses for all levels within the organisation to promote environmental awareness and reduce the number and severity of environmental incidents.

    Maintenance, Testing & Inspection

    • Controls and coordinates all maintenance and testing of environmental protection systems throughout the plant to ensure operational readiness.

    • Develops and initiates routine evaluations of the workplace, as required, advising on all aspects of environmental precautions to identify areas of non-conformance with local regulatory requirements and internationally accepted standards, and recommends solutions to ensure compliance.

    • Maintains familiarity with local regulatory requirements and international standards.

    Safety, Quality & Environment

    • Complies with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.

    People Management

    • Supervises the activities and work of subordinates by providing formal and informal feedback to ensure that all work within the Environment department is carried out efficiently and in accordance with company policies, procedures, and individual targets.

    • Performs other related duties or assignments as directed.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.

    Minimum Experience

    • 5–7 years of experience in a similar role within a large industrial environment, preferably in the aluminium industry.

    Skills

    • Strong experience in relationship building with government agencies is preferred.

    • Exposure to ISO systems.

    • Ability to draft standard operating procedures, proposals, and procedures.

    • Ability to read and interpret laws, rules, and regulations, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing to exchange information and receive work direction.

    • Ability to organise and complete tasks effectively.

    • Excellent written and spoken English; Arabic language skills are preferred.

    • Proven ability in writing documents such as meeting minutes.

    • Strong computer competency and related technical skills.
