Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Policies, Processes and Procedures · Implement approved departmental policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls covering all areas of the Environment department, ensuring that all relevant procedural and legislative requirements are adhered to while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner. Day-to-Day Operations · Supervise the implementation of day-to-day operations assigned to the Environment department to ensure they comply with established policies, processes and procedures. Investigation and Reporting · Supervise the effective implementation of the incident investigation process and undertake, as necessary, investigations and reporting of Environment incidents in conjunction with appropriate agencies where required, in a timely and correct manner, and make recommendations based on the outcome of such incidents. · Conduct environmental impact assessments for project and operational activities. · Develop, review and implement the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) management programme, including GHG data collection, analysis and reporting. · Conduct internal GHG assurance audits and support the preparation of facilities for third-party GHG audits. · Stay abreast of international and regional regulations related to emissions, waste management, water and wastewater, and GHG to ensure alignment with compliance standards. Training and Embedment · Plan, organise and conduct a wide range of Environment training courses for all levels within the organisation to promote Environment awareness and reduce the number and severity of Environment incidents. Maintenance, Testing and Inspection · Control and coordinate all maintenance and testing of Environment protection systems throughout the plant to ensure their operational readiness. · Develop and initiate routine evaluations of the workplace, advising as required on all aspects of Environment precautions to identify any areas of non-conformance with local regulatory requirements and internationally accepted standards, and recommend solutions to ensure compliance. · Maintain familiarity with local regulatory requirements and International Standards. Safety, Quality and Environment · Comply with all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment. People Management · Supervise the activities and work of subordinates by providing formal and informal feedback to ensure that all work within the Environment department is carried out in an efficient manner and in accordance with company policies, procedures and set individual targets. Related Assignments · Perform other related duties or assignments as directed. Authority and Decision Making Guidelines · Think and operate within clearly defined policies, standards and specific objectives. Decision Making · Direction of work is subject to established practices and procedures, and output is managed accordingly.
Desired Candidate Profile
Minimum Qualifications · Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or a related field. Minimum Experience · 5 to 7 years of experience in a similar role within a large industry, preferably in the aluminium industry. Skills · Strong experience in relationship building with government agencies is preferred. · Exposure to ISO management systems. · Ability to draft standard operating procedures, proposals and procedures. · Ability to read and interpret laws, rules and regulations, and communicate both orally and in writing to exchange or convey information and receive work direction. · Ability to organise and complete tasks through to completion. · Excellent written and spoken English; Arabic language skills are preferred. · Proven ability in the writing of documents such as minutes of meetings and formal reports. · Strong computer competency and related skills..
