Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Protection Coordinator and the Protection Officer, and under the direct supervision of the Senior Protection Associate in Zarzis, the incumbent will assist the daily functioning of assigned shelter and of follow-up with beneficiaries.

Responsibilities:

  1. Act as general focal point for daily communication on site, responding to routine queries and referring issues to the supervisor, as required.
  2. Assist in monitoring project activities and support follow-up in line with established schedules and specific guidelines.
  3. Assist the administrative coordination of shelter activities daily.
  4. Assist in conducting regular assessments in coordination with Senior Protection Associate, support monitoring activities, and provide inputs for progress reports on implemented activities, in line with the Mission s policies, procedures, and IOM s Standards of Conduct.
  5. Support assistance to migrants, reception and identification of beneficiaries; brief them on available assistance and shelter rules; monitor compliance with shelter rules; prepare rooms and basic items; support distribution of kits; and maintain daily records of migrant present in the shelter.
  6. Assist with shelter maintenance and hygiene: including reporting issues to the supervisor; support proper use of the infrastructures by beneficiaries; and following up on cleaning activities.
  7. Support safety and security-related activities by checking shelter infrastructures daily and reporting any issues to the supervisor, and assisting in emergency situations, as required.
  8. Support the handling of shelter-related information, including data collection on activities and service provision, and sharing information with beneficiaries and stakeholders.
  9. Support activities that encourage the participation of shelter beneficiaries with particular emphasis on the inclusion of women, unaccompanied migrants children, persons with specific needs, including migrants with health needs and migrants with disabilities into decision-making processes.
  10. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.

Desired Candidate Profile

Education

  • High school diploma with four years of relevant work experience; or
  • Bachelor s degree in Social Sciences, International Development, International Relations, Political Sciences or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of experience.

Experience

  • Experience in supporting operations, assistance to migrants, and humanitarian work.
  • Previous experience working in a similar position.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and keep deadlines.
  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment.

Skills

  • Good communication skills, teamwork, personal commitment, efficiency and flexibility.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Proficient use of commonly used IT equipment and the appropriate software solutions.
  • Willingness to travel and work under difficult conditions.
