Shift I/C / Roller TP - Multi Slit Operation (Hot Rolling Mill)

Job Purpose:

To oversee and execute rolling operations in the Hot Rolling Mill / Multi Slit Rolling section during shift, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safe operations are achieved.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Rolling Mill Operations

Operate and supervise multi slit rolling stands for Hot Rolling Mill.

Ensure proper pass design execution, slit rolling alignment, and guide setting.

Monitor rolling parameters such as temperature, speed, and load distribution.

Ensure optimal utilization of mill capacity and minimize cobbles/rejections.

2. Hot Rolling Mill Process Control

Control quenching and self-tempering process to achieve desired mechanical properties.

Monitor water pressure, flow rate, and cooling system performance.

Ensure consistent product quality as per IS/ASTM standards.

3. Production Management

Achieve shift production targets (tonnage, yield, and size mix).

Optimize billet charging and rolling sequence planning.

Maintain proper coordination with reheating furnace and finishing area.

4. Quality Assurance

Ensure dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and mechanical properties of rolled products.

Identify and rectify rolling defects (laps, cracks, cobbles, etc.).

Coordinate with QA/QC team for testing and compliance.

5. Team Handling

Lead and supervise shift manpower including operators, helpers, and technicians.

Allocate duties and ensure smooth shift handover.

Train and guide team on best rolling practices and safety.

6. Maintenance Coordination

Identify equipment issues in stands, guides, shears, and cooling bed.

Coordinate with maintenance team for breakdowns and preventive maintenance.

Ensure proper upkeep of rolls, guides, and slit equipment.

7. Safety & Compliance

Ensure adherence to plant safety standards and SOPs.

Conduct safety checks and promote safe work practices.

Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in rolling area.
