Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation of sterile medications, including IV admixtures and chemotherapy, ensuring accuracy and adherence to strict aseptic techniques.
- Verify and validate all sterile compounding processes, from ingredient selection to final product release, to guarantee patient safety and efficacy.
- Manage and maintain cleanroom environments, including air quality monitoring and equipment calibration, to comply with USP <797> and other relevant standards.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sterile compounding, promoting consistency and minimizing errors.
- Train and supervise pharmacy technicians and other staff involved in sterile compounding, fostering a culture of precision and compliance.
- Conduct regular audits and quality control checks to identify and address any deviations from established protocols, ensuring continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to provide clinical expertise on sterile medications, including dosage adjustments and compatibility issues.
- Manage inventory of sterile compounding supplies and medications, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage conditions.
- Investigate and resolve any medication errors or adverse events related to sterile products, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in sterile compounding techniques, regulations, and best practices, continuously enhancing professional knowledge.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Possesses a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution, demonstrating a strong foundation in pharmaceutical sciences.
- Holds a valid pharmacy license in good standing, allowing for the legal practice of pharmacy and medication dispensing.
- Certified in sterile compounding (e.g., CACP, CSPT), showcasing specialized knowledge and expertise in aseptic techniques.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a sterile compounding pharmacy setting, providing hands-on experience in the preparation of sterile products.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of USP <797> and <800> guidelines, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Proficient in using sterile compounding equipment, such as laminar flow hoods and isolators, ensuring safe and accurate preparation of medications.
- Exhibits excellent attention to detail and accuracy, critical for minimizing errors in sterile compounding.
- Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating effective collaboration with healthcare professionals and pharmacy staff.
- Possesses the ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to a fast-paced environment with a commitment to patient safety.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English, allowing for clear communication and adherence to written protocols.
