Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall administration, safety, and operational efficiency of the barge during offshore construction projects—from small to mega-scale—ensuring all activities comply with contractual, safety, and operational standards. Acts as NMDC Energy’s primary representative on the barge/vessel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all barge operations in line with the Barge Management Manual and company procedures.
  • Act as the offshore representative for NPCC, liaising with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Ensure permits and clearances are obtained for mobilization/demobilization.
  • Supervise barge setup based on approved anchor patterns, marine specifications, and field charts.
  • Oversee crane operations, anchoring, stinger/stern extension installation, and coordination of marine spreads.
  • Ensure maintenance of barge equipment in collaboration with the Chief Engineer.
  • Maintain compliance with class surveys and certifications.
  • Participate in management meetings regarding administration, strategy, equipment, and personnel planning.
  • Implement safety protocols, lead HSE drills, and maintain risk registers.
  • Track project progress, prepare operational reports, and ensure alignment with clients and base office.
  • Monitor barge warehousing, material handling, and effective space utilization.
  • Plan leave schedules and ensure continuous, safe operation on board.
  • Prepare the barge for extreme weather conditions and manage emergency response.
  • Investigate incidents and maintain compliance with HSE and company standards.

Required Competencies:

  • Expertise in barge operations, derrick crane systems, rigging, lifting, anchoring, ballast systems, and engine room equipment.
  • Strong understanding of offshore construction equipment and procedures.
  • Solid knowledge of offshore HSE standards, procedures, and certifications (e.g., OHSAS 18001, LOTO, HSEMS).
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials and waste management.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and negotiation skills.
  • Commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Report writing and team management skills.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Secondary School Certificate with technical qualification or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in offshore oil & gas industry, including floating and jack-up barge operations.
