Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Overview
Lead and coordinate all System Assurance activities across rail sub-systems to ensure that the integrated railway system is safe, reliable, and fit for purpose throughout its lifecycle.
Your role
- Lead and manage complex rail and transit systems engineering workstreams, ensuring successful delivery of design and construction of communications systems, Signaling and Train Control Systems, Traction Power System, Overhead Catenary System, Light Rail Vehicle and Track.
- Act as a senior technical authority for rail control systems, providing technical supervision, project management and strategic direction guidance for teams under each system.
- Oversee multidisciplinary coordination across engineering teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure system-level alignment and performance.
- Manage technical quality, risk, and compliance with applicable transit standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive the delivery of systems construction and installation activities in the field as required.
- Support Systems Engineering, Systems Assurance and Testing and Commissioning deliverables.
- Develop, implement, and manage the System Assurance Management Plan (SAMP) in accordance with CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129).
- Lead RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety) analyses including FMEA, FMECA, FTA, RBD, and ALARP/SFAIRP assessments.
- Establish and maintain the project Hazard Log; identify, assess, and track hazards through to formal closure in coordination with the project team and Independent Safety Assessor (ISA).
- Manage and maintain the System Safety Case (SSC) throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring all safety arguments are substantiated with appropriate evidence.
- Coordinate System Assurance activities across all rail sub-systems including signalling, telecoms, traction power, rolling stock, civil works, and depot systems.
- Review technical documentation including design specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and test procedures from a system assurance perspective.
- Oversee Verification and Validation (V&V) activities and ensure all system requirements are fully traced and verified against design deliverables.
- Support Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) activities, safety audits, and regulatory approval processes.
- Utilise tools such as Doors etc. for requirements management.
- Coordinate with the testing and commissioning team to ensure safety-critical test evidence is captured and accepted.
- Maintain system assurance registers, open action trackers, and configuration management records
- Conduct or facilitate safety workshops, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, and design reviews with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Provide technical guidance on system assurance matters to project management, designers, contractors, and the client.
Key Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129) and CSM-RA framework.
- Experience with hazard analysis techniques (HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, FTA).
- Familiarity with SIL determination and safety integrity requirements.
- Strong stakeholder management and technical report writing skills.
Desired Candidate Profile
B.S. or M.S. in Engineering preferred (Electrical Engineering preferred).
15+ years experience in engineering (10+ years experience in rail and transit engineering in Middle East).
Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) is generally required. However, extensive experience may be substituted in lieu of licensing.
