Main Duties and Responsibilities

Garment Alterations and Repairs:

• Take precise measurements, assess garment fit, perform alterations such as hemming, resizing, and adjusting seams, and repair damaged or worn clothing items to restore their original quality.
• Use sewing machines, hand stitching techniques, and various tools to alter and repair garments, ensuring a perfect fit and seamless finish that meets client specifications.

Custom Garment Creation:

• Consult with clients to understand their style preferences, fabric choices, and design requirements for custom-made garments, such as suits, dresses, shirts, or formal wear.
• Create garment patterns, cut fabric according to measurements, assemble garment pieces, sew seams, add details like buttons or zippers, and tailor the garment to fit the client's body shape accurately.

Fitting and Adjustment Sessions:

• Conduct fitting sessions with clients to try on garments, assess fit and comfort, make adjustments for proper sizing and styling, and ensure that garments conform to the client's body shape and preferences.
• Provide recommendations on fit, style enhancements, and garment modifications based on client feedback and tailor adjustments to achieve the desired look and feel.

Fabric Selection and Care:

• Advise clients on fabric choices, colors, textures, and patterns that suit their garment preferences, body type, and style preferences, considering factors such as durability, comfort, and maintenance.
• Handle fabrics with care, follow proper laundering instructions, conduct fabric tests for compatibility with garment construction techniques, and recommend fabric care practices to clients for garment longevity.

Tailoring Techniques and Tools:

• Demonstrate expertise in sewing techniques, garment construction methods, pattern drafting, draping, and fabric manipulation to create well-fitted garments and achieve desired design aesthetics.
• Utilize tailoring tools such as scissors, measuring tapes, sewing needles, thread, thimbles, seam rippers, pressing irons, and sewing machines to execute precise tailoring work and achieve professional results.

Client Communication and Service:

• Establish rapport with clients, listen to their garment preferences and style goals, provide personalized recommendations, and offer professional advice on garment fit, alterations, and design choices.
• Communicate effectively with clients, manage client expectations, provide timelines for tailoring projects, and deliver exceptional customer service to ensure client satisfaction and loyalty.

Quality Control and Detailing:

• Inspect finished garments for quality, check seams, hems, closures, and details for accuracy and durability, address any imperfections or discrepancies, and ensure that garments meet quality standards.
• Pay attention to garment finishing touches, such as hand stitching, pressing, embellishments, and trims, to enhance garment aesthetics, refine craftsmanship, and deliver tailor-made pieces that exceed client expectations.

Skills

A Tailor requires strong attention to detail, precision, and technical skills in garment alteration and custom tailoring. They must be proficient in using sewing machines, cutting tools, and other tailoring equipment. Excellent customer service skills are essential for understanding client needs and preferences. Time management is important for completing alterations and custom work within deadlines. A Tailor should also possess good organizational skills, attention to fabric care, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and quality.
