Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

1. Pre-Bid Engineering & Proposal Support

  • Review tender documents, project specifications, route maps, alignment sheets, and client requirements.
  • Prepare preliminary pipeline designs, route selection analysis, hydraulic calculations, and material take-offs (MTOs).
  • Support preparation of technical proposals, value-engineering options, and deviations/clarifications.
  • Provide pipeline-related assumptions, design basis, and technical inputs for cost estimation teams.
  • Review vendor information for line pipe, valves, fittings, corrosion protection systems, and other pipeline components during proposal stage.

2. Detail Engineering Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of engineering deliverables including:
  • Pipeline design basis
  • Route selection reports
  • Alignment sheets
  • Pipeline wall thickness calculations
  • Stress analysis (buried, above-ground, crossings)
  • Surge analysis (for water pipelines)
  • Cathodic protection design
  • Station piping layouts and isometrics
  • Review and validate P&IDs, GA drawings, pipeline material specifications, and construction drawings.
  • Ensure alignment with relevant codes/standards (ASME B31.4/B31.8, API 5L, DNV, AWWA, ISO, NACE).
  • Coordinate with GIS, civil, process, mechanical, and instrumentation teams for integrated design.

3. Crossings, Route Engineering & Special Studies

  • Evaluate and design road crossings, railway crossings, river crossings (HDD, micro-tunneling), canal crossings, and other critical sections.
  • Support geotechnical investigations, soil reports, and topographical surveys.
  • Perform risk assessments, pipeline integrity studies, and constructability reviews.

4. Interface Management

  • Coordinate with:
  • Process & hydraulic teams
  • Civil & structural teams
  • Electrical & CP teams
  • Vendor engineering (valves, fittings, CP, coatings)
  • Procurement and construction teams
  • Resolve multidisciplinary technical issues and ensure complete engineering integration.

5. Construction & EPC Support

  • Provide technical support to procurement teams during TBE (Technical Bid Evaluations).
  • Review vendor drawings, data sheets, pipe mill documents, and FAT/SAT reports.
  • Support site teams with engineering clarifications, as-built reviews, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure seamless transition of engineering packages to construction and commissioning teams.

  • Ability to work under tight timelines during bidding phase.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor s degree in Mechanical / Civil / Pipeline Engineering or equivalent.
  • 10 20 years of pipeline engineering experience in oil & gas, water transmission, or cross-country pipeline EPC projects.
  • Strong experience in pre-bid engineering, pipeline design, stress analysis, and route engineering.
  • Proficiency in pipeline engineering tools (CAESAR II, GIS tools, AutoCAD, Navisworks, HCA/Risk tools, PipeSim/OLGA/WANDA for hydraulics).
  • Familiarity with EPC workflows, multidisciplinary coordination, and vendor engineering.
