Job Location- Saudi Arabia


Job Summary-

The Testing & Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for planning, conducting, and analyzing electrical testing and commissioning activities for substations, ensuring that equipment and systems are functioning according to specifications and industry standards. This role involves a combination of technical expertise, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of electrical systems, including high-voltage and low-voltage switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and auxiliary equipment.


Key Responsibilities-

  • Testing & Commissioning:

    • Perform testing and commissioning of electrical equipment and systems in substations, including transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, busbars, and switchgear.

    • Conduct insulation resistance testing, continuity testing, and testing of protective relays and protection schemes.

    • Ensure that all electrical equipment meets functional specifications and industry standards.

    • Develop and implement test procedures for new installations and retrofits.

  • Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving:

    • Identify and troubleshoot faults and issues in electrical systems.

    • Provide solutions and corrective actions to address equipment failures and operational inefficiencies.

    • Work with the operations and maintenance teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.

  • Documentation & Reporting:

    • Prepare detailed test reports, including results, observations, and recommendations for corrective actions.

    • Maintain accurate records of all tests performed and equipment status.

    • Ensure compliance with industry safety and regulatory standards.

    • Review and update technical documentation, including test procedures and commissioning checklists.

  • Safety & Compliance:

    • Follow all safety protocols and work procedures when testing and commissioning electrical equipment.

    • Ensure that all testing activities comply with local, national, and international electrical standards and regulations (e.g., IEC, ANSI, IEEE).

    • Conduct risk assessments for electrical testing activities and implement safe working practices.

  • Collaboration & Coordination:

    • Collaborate with project engineers, construction teams, and vendors to ensure timely completion of testing and commissioning tasks.

    • Provide technical support during the design, installation, and operation phases of substation projects.

    • Act as a liaison between the testing team and clients or third-party inspectors.

  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and advancements in substation testing and commissioning.

    • Contribute to the development and improvement of testing methods and procedures.

    • Recommend improvements in equipment reliability and performance based on testing results.


Key Skills & Qualifications


  • Educational Requirements:

    • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in substation/Transmission line testing, commissioning, and maintenance.

    • Experience with high-voltage equipment testing (e.g., circuit breakers, transformers, and switchgear) is essential.

    • Familiarity with testing tools and equipment such as relay test sets, oscilloscopes, and power analyzers.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, substation equipment, and protective relays.

    • Familiar with DEWA / TRASNCO/ SEC Specifications.

    • Proficient in using testing instruments and equipment.

    • Knowledge of power system protection and control schemes.

    • Familiar with industry standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, IEEE).


Mandatory - Experience in Transmission lines/testing & commissioning
