Job Description – Senior Engineer (NPD & NPI – Cooling Systems)
Position Title: Senior Engineer – New Product Development (NPD) & New Product Introduction (NPI) – Cooling
Department: R&D / Engineering
Reports To: Head of Product Development / R&D Sr.Manager
Location: [Bahrain]
Role Purpose
Lead and execute development of new air conditioning products (DX units, RTUs, AHUs, Chillers, VRF, etc.), ensuring innovative, reliable, and cost-effective solutions. Drive new product introduction from concept to market, coordinating cross-functional teams to achieve performance, quality, and cost targets.
Key Responsibilities
New Product Development (NPD):
- Lead design and development of new cooling products in line with market needs and regulations.
- Develop system architecture, component selection, and thermal design (compressors, heat exchangers, fans, expansion devices, etc.).
- Perform thermodynamic simulations to optimize product efficiency and performance.
- Drive value engineering and cost optimization during design.
- Ensure designs comply with international standards (ASHRAE, AHRI, Eurovent, UL, ISO).
New Product Introduction (NPI):
- Translate prototypes into mass production-ready designs.
- Define and validate bill of materials (BOM) for new products.
- Lead pilot builds, testing, and validation at lab/manufacturing site.
- Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
- Support smooth handover to production with all documentation (drawings, test reports, SOPs).
Cross-functional & Project Management:
- Work with Marketing, Sales, and Product Management to define product specifications.
- Coordinate with suppliers for component development and qualification.
- Lead DFMEA, PFMEA, and risk assessments for new projects.
- Track project timelines, budgets, and milestones.
- Mentor junior engineers in cooling design and project execution.
KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
- Timely launch of new products as per roadmap.
- Achievement of product cost, performance, and quality targets.
- Successful completion of validation and certification.
- Contribution to innovation (patents, design improvements, energy efficiency gains).
- Supplier and manufacturing readiness for new product launches.
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: 8–12 years in HVAC product development (DX units, RTUs, AHUs, or chillers preferred).
- Strong background in refrigeration cycle, psychrometry, and heat transfer.
- Hands-on experience with simulation tools (Unilab, ANSYS Fluent, etc.) and CAD (Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Familiar with HVAC product certifications and regulatory requirements.
- Proven track record of launching successful HVAC products (concept to mass production).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (sheet metal, tubing, brazing, and assembly).
- Project management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural, fast-paced environment with complex product portfolio.
