Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Stone Tile Installation:

Measure, cut, and lay stone tiles (such as marble, granite, or slate) on floors, walls, and other surfaces, ensuring proper alignment and fit.

Apply mortar or adhesive to secure tiles in place and ensure a solid bond.

Surface Preparation:

Clean and prepare surfaces before tiling, ensuring they are smooth, level, and dry.

Apply bonding agents, primers, or waterproofing solutions where necessary.

Cutting and Shaping:

Use appropriate tools such as tile cutters, wet saws, and grinders to cut and shape tiles to required sizes and patterns.

Ensure precise measurements and maintain consistent spacing between tiles.

Finishing Work:

Apply grout to fill gaps between tiles, ensuring a neat and smooth finish.

Clean excess grout and polish tiles to achieve a uniform, high-quality surface.

Tile Patterns and Design:

Lay tiles according to design specifications, ensuring correct alignment, pattern, and aesthetic appeal.

Customize tile patterns for specific design needs, including complex or decorative layouts.

Repair and Maintenance:

Repair or replace damaged tiles in existing installations, matching the style and design of the surrounding area.

Perform routine maintenance on tiled surfaces to ensure long-lasting durability.

Safety and Compliance:

Follow all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) guidelines specific to the oil and gas sector.

Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure a safe work environment, particularly when working with heavy or hazardous materials.

Collaboration with Other Trades:

Work closely with other trades, such as plumbers, electricians, and general laborers, to ensure tiles are installed around other infrastructure without issues.

Communicate effectively to resolve on-site challenges related to tile installation.

Material Management:

Select and handle stone tiles with care to prevent damage.

Ensure efficient use of materials to minimize wastage while maintaining high standards.

Documentation:

Keep track of the materials used, including quantities and specifications.

Report any discrepancies, issues, or variations from original design plans to supervisors.

Desired Candidate Profile

High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in masonry or tiling is preferred.

Proven experience as a tile mason (stone) in industrial, commercial, or oil and gas settings.

Knowledge of different types of stone materials (marble, granite, slate, etc.) and their applications.

Skills and Competencies:

Proficiency in using tile cutting tools, saws, and grinders.

Strong understanding of tile installation techniques, including surface preparation, mortar application, and grout filling.

Attention to detail for achieving accurate measurements and high-quality finishes.

Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy materials and work in physically demanding conditions.

Problem-solving skills to address challenges with tile layouts, surface imperfections, or design modifications.
