Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE:
The Track Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safety, functionality, and reliability of the track infrastructure. This includes leading maintenance activities, coordinating operational logistics, and managing technical teams. The role ensures maintenance is carried out according to engineering standards, safety regulations, and organizational objectives supporting continuous service, infrastructure integrity, and the long-term performance of railway assets.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Technical & Operational Responsibilities
- Supervise corrective and preventive maintenance activities across tracks, workshops, and maintenance sites.
- Plan, execute, and adjust daily work tasks for technicians and operators.
- Analyze and report on track condition and service performance to support uninterrupted operations.
- Lead emergency interventions and ensure effective problem resolution under time constraints.
- Conduct inspections using measuring vehicles and interpret data results to detect infrastructure issues.
- Organize and manage night and day shift coordination to support continuous operations.
- Monitor and manage online inventories and equipment, especially during night shifts.
Maximo / CMMS Scope
- Utilize CMMS (e.g., Maximo) to:
- Plan, track, and report maintenance activities.
- Ensure timely input and closure of work orders.
- Maintain accurate records of asset conditions, parts usage, and interventions.
- Monitor asset availability and reliability through system data.
- Analyze trends and generate reports to support decision-making and optimize asset life cycles.
Safety
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations during all maintenance activities.
- Enforce company safety procedures and policies across teams and contractors.
- Conduct toolbox talks and participates in safety inspections and audits.
- Identify safety risks and escalate issues promptly to relevant stakeholders.
- Train team members on safe working practices and ensure proper PPE usage and adherence to safety standards.
- Plan works on both operated and unoperated tracks with full consideration for operational and safety constraints.
Coordination & Communication
- Communicate effectively with internal departments (e.g., Operations, Planning) and external stakeholders.
- Support strategic objectives by aligning maintenance activities with broader organizational goals.
- Contribute to technical meetings, change management discussions, and improvement initiatives.
- Report directly to the Head of Track and provide input on team performance, work progress, and improvement areas.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Sound knowledge of metro track systems, infrastructure maintenance, and distressing processes.
- Understanding of railway operational constraints and worksite logistics.
- Proficient in using CMMS (e.g., Maximo) and Microsoft Office tools.
- Familiar with planning methods for maintenance and track work.
EXPERIENCE:
- From 3-5 years of experience in railway track maintenance, preferably in an urban metro system.
- Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and shift-based operations.
- Exposure to change management initiatives and continuous improvement environments.
Desired Candidate Profile
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
