Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly experienced Urban Planner / Urban Designer to join our team full time at Aseer Design Studio. The candidate will be responsible for reviewing projects, ensuring compliance with urban planning codes, coordinating with relevant stakeholders, automating code verification, and using specialized planning tools (including GPS, GIS, etc.). This role requires expert knowledge of planning regulations and at least ten (10) years of relevant professional experience.
Job Location: Abha City, South of Saudi Arabia
Key Responsibilities
- Review proposed development projects to ensure they comply with the urban code and other relevant regulations.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of local urban codes, regulations, zoning laws; interpret and verify their implementation.
- Coordinate with government bodies, municipalities, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment in planning, design, and regulatory matters.
- Implement and automate processes for code review and compliance (e.g. using software/tools to streamline code verification).
- Utilize relevant software tools and technologies in planning such as GPS, Geographic Information System (GIS), mapping tools, and other planning/design software.
- Prepare, review, and approve site plans, layouts, maps, diagrams and other planning documents.
- Assist in spatial analysis and data collection relevant to demographic, geographic, environmental, and infrastructural aspects of urban planning.
- Provide technical input in the design and planning phases of projects, ensuring that design proposals are viable, sustainable, and aligned with the code.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate planning decisions and proposals to internal teams, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor changes in codes, regulations, urban planning best practices, and ensure organizational compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree (or equivalent) in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in urban planning / urban design, with demonstrated experience in reviewing projects, handling planning codes, and coordinating with regulatory bodies.
- Strong technical proficiency with relevant tools, especially GIS, and familiarity with GPS and mapping software.
- Excellent command of English (written and oral).
- Deep knowledge of local urban planning codes and regulations.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to liaise effectively with authorities, teams, consultants, and other stakeholders.
Working Conditions
- Full time, office based role.
- Normal business hours, but may require meetings with external stakeholders, regulatory agencies, or site visits as needed.
- Collaboration with multi disciplinary teams and frequent coordination with external entities (government departments, municipalities, etc.).
Desirable Skills
- Experience in automating code compliance or use of code automation tools.
- Experience with advanced GIS analysis, spatial modelling.
- Experience leading or managing planning/design teams or mentoring junior planners/designers.
- Prior experience working within or liaising with relevant municipal / governmental planning authorities.
