Roles & Responsibilities

The German University in Cairo is looking for a highly able and motivated applicant wishing to join as a **User Education Librarian**. The successful candidate will be expected to design and deliver instructional programs that empower students, researchers, and staff to effectively find, evaluate, and use library resources in support of academic teaching and research. The role aims to enhance information literacy skills, reduce library anxiety, and promote deeper engagement with library services and resources.
Responsibilities include:
Designing and delivering library orientation sessions, workshops, and training programs for students, faculty, and staff (online and in-person).
Teaching information literacy skills, including research strategies, critical evaluation of sources, and ethical use of information.
Developing instructional materials such as research guides, tutorials, and learning aids to support user education.
Providing reference and research support services to assist users in navigating library resources and databases.
Promoting awareness and effective utilization of library services and collections.
Collaborating with faculty members to integrate information literacy components into academic courses and curricula.
Assessing the effectiveness of instructional programs and continuously improving teaching methods and materials.
Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a B.A. in Library and Information Science or a related field and preferably have 3 5 years of experience in academic libraries, user education, or information literacy instruction. Candidates should demonstrate strong teaching abilities, familiarity with academic research tools and databases, and a passion for empowering users to become independent researchers.
Job Requirements:
Fluent English language skill, and German would be an additional asset.
Excellent communication, teaching, and presentation skills.
Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of library systems and computer applications (e.g. library databases, catalog systems, Office package, e-learning platforms, etc.).
Effective administrative skills, including the ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
Proactive initiative and ability to make decisions.
Creativity and work resilience within the scope of work & resourceful problem-solving.
Ability to work and interact efficiently with all levels of colleagues and patrons.
