Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The Weld Engineer will be responsible to monitor, review, and ensure the compliance of all welding activities conducted by the EPC Contractor and its subcontractors, in accordance with project specifications, international codes and standards, and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and review the EPC Contractor s welding procedures, method statements, and inspection test plans (ITPs).
- Verify that Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualifications are approved and in compliance with applicable codes (ASME, AWS, ISO, etc.).
- Monitor daily welding activities to ensure adherence to quality standards and approved procedures.
- Conduct or witness welder qualification tests and ensure proper certification and deployment of welders.
- Ensure traceability of welding consumables and control of storage and handling on site.
- Review and verify Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) results, welding logs, and weld maps prepared by the EPC Contractor.
- Participate in root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions for welding-related non-conformities and failures.
- Coordinate with QA/QC, construction, and third-party inspection teams to resolve welding and metallurgical issues.
- Prepare technical reports, NCR evaluations, and input to progress and quality reporting.
- Support the handover and final documentation process by reviewing welding dossiers and related quality records.
- Accept individual responsibility for their own safe behavior as well as share responsibility with their fellow workers and line supervision to look out for their own as well as their co-workers safety
- Comply with and constructively participate in the Project HSSE activities
- Work in a safe manner at all times and contribute to the implementation of the Incident and Injury Free philosophy
- Stop any unsafe act/behavior observed and report it to their line supervisor/manager
- Take reasonable care for the safety of themselves and other personnel who are at the workplace, and who may be affected by any acts or omissions on their part
- Co-operate with their employer in ensuring that their workplace is as safe and healthy as is reasonably practical
- Report any hazard or potential hazard in the workplace or any incident, personal injury, accident or near miss that may have occurred during the course of work to the HSSE staff immediately
- Correctly use, store and maintain PPE issued to them for protection against workplace hazards
- Follow all verbal or written safe work procedures, practices and directions
- Observe all warning signs and notices
- Attend toolbox meetings and all other HSSE meetings as required
- Attend all scheduled relevant HSSE trainings
- Comply with work instructions and permit requirements
- Bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in large-scale power plant or energy infrastructure projects.
- In-depth knowledge of welding codes and standards (ASME Section IX, API, AWS D1.1, ISO 3834, etc.).
- Familiarity with welding of pressure parts, structural steel, piping, and high-temperature alloys.
- Strong understanding of NDT techniques and interpretation of test results.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills in English.
