Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of a Welding Engineer is to ensure that all welding activities meet the necessary quality standards, comply with project specifications, and maintain the structural integrity of the welded materials. The Welding Engineer is responsible for verifying welding procedures, personnel qualifications, and inspecting final welds to ensure they meet industry standards and project requirements.
Ensure the project meets the QA/QC contractual requirements.
Contribute to achieving Quality goals and targets
Achieve defect-free welds that meet project and international standards.
Ensure timely qualification of welding procedures and personnel.
Maintain compliance with codes such as ASME, AWS, API, and client-specific standards.
Support continuous improvement in welding quality and safety practices.
Minimize rework and non-conformance through proactive monitoring and problem-solving.
Review welding-related specifications outlined in client contracts to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Ensure all welding activities adhere to approved project quality specifications and procedures.
Prepare, review, and approve WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) and PQR (Procedure Qualification Record) to confirm compliance with codes, standards, and technical requirements.
Conduct qualification tests for welders and welding operators as per industry standards and codes.
Ensure only qualified personnel are engaged in welding activities.
Continuously monitor welding operations to ensure strict adherence to approved procedures and standards.
Verify correct materials, techniques, and equipment are used.
Conduct visual inspections of welds to detect defects.
Coordinate and supervise NDT methods (UT, RT, MPI, etc.) as required by project specifications.
Maintain detailed records of inspections, NDT results, findings, and corrective actions.
Ensure welding documentation (WPS, PQR, welder qualifications) is up-to-date and compliant.
Enforce safety and environmental regulations during welding operations.
Collaborate with project engineers, QC personnel, and other disciplines to resolve welding-related issues.
Participate in internal and external audits related to welding activities.
Prepare and maintain weld maps indicating location, type, and status of each weld.
Review reports related to welding consumables (electrodes, filler metals) for compliance.
Ensure welders are assigned tasks based on qualifications and experience.
Provide training to welders and operators on latest techniques, standards, and safety practices.
Investigate welding failures/repairs, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Ensure availability and proper functioning of welding machines and accessories.
Maintain weld consumable logs (project-wise/jobwise).
Estimate welding consumable requirements based on drawings/jobs.
Monitor and control issuance and return of welding consumables to/from stores.
Track welder performance records.
Desired Candidate Profile
Technical education: Diploma- Mechanical or BE – Mechanical / Metallurgy or M. Tech in Welding Technology is preferred.
Specialization in welding or IIW or CWE Qualification Preferred.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in welding activities.
Exposure to welding fabrication activities for equipment packages / pressure vessels / piping / Structural.
Exposure to international codes and standards such as ASME, AWS, API, ISO desirable.
