Position Overview

JOB DESCRIPTION

The School of Communication & Creative Industries invites applications for a full-time Assistant / Associate Professor position in Public Relations. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service within the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Public Relations program. Applicants should have expertise in strategic communication, corporate PR, crisis communication, media relations, and digital PR strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Curriculum Development:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in strategic public relations, communication theories & media effects, audiovisual production, cinema studies, media planning, social media management, media and politics.
  • Develop and update course content to reflect industry trends, digital transformations, and AI in PR and media.
  • Supervise student projects, internships, and capstone experiences in collaboration with industry partners.
  • Utilize case studies, simulations, and real-world PR campaigns to enhance student learning.

Research & Scholarly Activities

  • Conduct high-quality research in public relations, corporate reputation management, media relations, or digital communication.
  • Publish in Scopus-ranked and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Seek external research funding and engage in collaborative research projects.
  • Present research at academic conferences and industry events.

Service & Community Engagement

  • Support student recruitment and mentorship initiatives.
  • Foster industry partnerships and contribute to experiential learning opportunities.
  • Participate in departmental and university committees.
  • Engage in community outreach to promote public relations education and ethical communication practices.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • PhD in Public Relations, Communication, Strategic Communication, or a related field from top 500 QS ranked universities, preferably western accredited universities.
  • A strong research profile with publications in reputable journals.
  • Minimum three years of teaching experience at the university level (for Assistant Professor) and significant teaching and research experience (for Associate Professor).
  • Professional experience in public relations, corporate communication, or media relations is an advantage.
  • Expertise in digital PR, social media strategy, crisis communication, and corporate branding.
  • Familiarity with Canadian and international PR landscapes is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a diverse academic environment.
