Roles & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Policies and Procedures:

Develop and ensure the application of Information Technology (IT) standards and procedures specific to the Center's databases, to achieve the organization's objectives.

Responsibilities

Database Design, Implementation, and Optimization:

  • Supervise the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust, scalable, and secure database systems that meet the organization's operational and financial requirements.
  • Manage the architecture, configuration, and optimization of relational and non-relational databases (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, Cloud Databases).
  • Ensure performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting to maintain optimal performance in high-transaction volume environments.

Data Security and Compliance:

  • Ensure all database systems comply with financial regulations, data protection laws, and the organization's security policies.
  • Implement and maintain encryption mechanisms, access controls, and auditing mechanisms to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive financial data.
  • Collaborate with compliance and auditing teams to conduct regular reviews and assessments of data security practices.

Backup and Recovery:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee database backup strategies and disaster recovery plans to ensure data protection and business continuity.
  • Periodically test and update recovery plans to ensure rapid data restoration in case of failure, minimizing the impact of the outage on business operations.

Collaboration with IT Teams and Business Units:

  • Work closely with other IT teams (Software Development, Infrastructure, Security) to ensure that database solutions align with application requirements and architectural integrations.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, including Finance and Operations, to identify data needs, support business intelligence initiatives, and provide actionable insights from financial data.

Database Migration and Upgrades:

  • Lead database migration projects and ensure a smooth transition to new platforms or systems, minimizing downtime and data loss.
  • Oversee the implementation of upgrades and updates to ensure database systems remain current and secure.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor database health, including performance, availability, and capacity utilization
  • Prepare periodic reports for senior management on database performance, security, and ongoing initiatives.
