Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The Business Development Manager (Data Centers) is responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing EPC contracts for large-scale data center projects (Hyperscale, Colocation, and Edge). You will navigate a complex ecosystem of real estate developers, tech giants, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) consultants to position the company as the preferred turnkey partner.
Key Responsibilities
1. Market Intelligence & Strategy
Pipeline Development: Identify upcoming data center builds and retrofits across the target region.
Competitive Landscape: Monitor competitor bidding strategies and EPC delivery models (e.g., Design-Build vs. Traditional).
Trend Analysis: Stay ahead of industry shifts such as Liquid Cooling, AI-driven power demands, and Modular Construction.
2. Strategic Relationship Management
Stakeholder Mapping: Build relationships with "The Big Three" (Hyperscalers), Colocation providers, and specialized consultants (e.g., Uptime Institute-certified firms).
Partner Alliances: Coordinate with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) for critical power (UPS, Generators) and cooling systems to offer a bundled EPC solution.
3. Tendering & Bid Management (The "E" and "P" of EPC)
RFP/RFQ Leadership: Lead the response for complex tenders, ensuring the technical proposal aligns with the client's Tier Classification (Tier III or IV).
Risk Assessment: Work with the legal and project teams to evaluate liquidated damages, performance guarantees, and "Time-to-Market" risks.
Commercial Negotiation: Drive the closing of EPC contracts, ensuring margin protection while meeting aggressive client timelines.
Success Metrics (KPIs)
Order Intake: Total value of signed EPC contracts per fiscal year.
Win Rate: Ratio of successful bids vs. total RFPs submitted.
Pipeline Health: Total value of "Qualified Leads" in the CRM.
Market Share: Expansion into new geographies or with new Hyperscale clients.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering. MBA is a plus.
Experience: 7–10+ years in Business Development, with at least 3–5 years specifically in Data Center construction or large-scale MEP/Industrial EPC.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), HVAC/CRAC systems, and high-voltage distribution.
Contracts: Familiarity with FIDIC or similar international construction contract standards.
Soft Skills: High-stakes negotiation, ability to translate "technical jargon" into "business value," and executive presence.
