Looking for a remote/hybrid job? Read this first
In-person work remains the dominant model across most sectors in the region. This is not a gap in the market; it reflects how business genuinely operates here. Relationships are built face to face. Decisions move through personal trust. The professional culture rewards presence, and for many people who have worked here for any length of time, that is one of the things they value most about it.
That said, hybrid models are growing in specific pockets, and it is worth knowing where.
Technology companies, particularly those with regional headquarters and global parent organisations, have moved furthest toward flexible working arrangements. Startups and scale-ups across the UAE and Saudi Arabia are increasingly offering hybrid structures as part of how they compete for talent. Professional services firms, consulting, and certain creative industries have also shifted, particularly for senior individual contributors.
Fully remote roles based in the region are less common, but they exist, primarily in technology, content, and digital functions where output is measurable and team distribution is already the norm.
Where remote work is unlikely to grow quickly: government-linked organisations, banking and financial services, hospitality, healthcare, and large industrial or energy sector employers. These sectors operate with a strong preference for co-location and that is not changing meaningfully in the near term.
The honest picture is one of genuine flexibility in the right sectors, and a strong in-person culture everywhere else. Both are worth knowing before you apply.
