Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities


The Core Services will include but not be limited to-

  • Dry Bulk Cargo Transportation

Safe and timely shipment of coal, iron ore, grains, steel, and other dry commodities.

Charter vessels of all sizes on Period, Trip Time Charter & Voyage Charter.

Provide flexible chartering solutions for traders and miners using own or chartered vessels.

  • Freight Market Intelligence
    Real-time market insights and analytics to support trading and shipping decisions.
  • Cargo Handling

Understand and apply the nuances of loading/ stowage of various cargoes for which vessel will be chartered.

Freight Sourcing & Negotiation

· Prepare a shipping plan which includes Long, Medium & Short terms strategy. This may include and not limited to chartering vessels on Period, TCT & Voyage.

· Source and evaluate suitable vessels for spot cargoes, COA commitments, and longer-term charter requirements.

· Negotiate voyage and time charter contracts ensuring competitive and stable freight cost structures.

· Conduct voyage estimations and freight economics aligned with trade and pricing teams.

· Maintain strong relationships with global shipowners, operators, and shipbrokers.

Market Analysis & Strategy

· Monitor sector freight indices (e.g., Baltic Dry Index, route TC/spot benchmarks).

· Analyze bunker market, vessel supply-demand, port congestion & seasonal trade flows.

· Recommend hedging, COA portfolio strategy, and freight budget inputs.

· Support expansion into new trade lanes or customers requiring marine logistics

Risk, Compliance & Vetting

· Confirm vessel suitability: class, age, performance history, PSC records, P&I cover.

· Conduct sanctions checks and review implications of JWC-listed areas (war risk approval).

· Maintain compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL and other statutory requirements in both load and discharge ports.

· Manage exposure to weather delays, congestion, piracy, and cargo damage risks.

Market Analysis & Strategy

· Monitor sector freight indices (e.g., Baltic Dry Index, route TC/spot benchmarks).

· Analyse bunker market, vessel supply-demand, port congestion & seasonal trade flows.

· Recommend hedging, COA portfolio strategy, and freight budget inputs.

· Support expansion into new trade lanes or customers requiring marine logistics.

Post fixtures, Claims & Disputes

· Review SOF, ensure laytime accuracy, and manage demurrage and dispatch settlements

· Collaborate with commercial/legal teams on claims avoidance and contract compliance.

· Track voyage milestones and performance KPIs.

Freight Derivatives (FFA) Trading & Exposure Control

· Monitor bulk/tanker market volatility and identify hedging opportunities aligned with physical exposure.

· Contribute and assist towards execution of Forward Freight Agreements (FFAs) – time-charter and voyage-based routes.

· Contribute and assist towards managing freight exposure matching against cargo sales, COA commitments, and vessel employment.

· Use Baltic Exchange data and route assessments for pricing and benchmarking.

Bunker Hedging Strategy & Fuel Risk Management

· Assess bunker consumption forecasts and exposure across voyages.

· Contribute and assist towards Trade bunker swaps/futures (e.g., Singapore, Fujairah, Rotterdam benchmarks).

· Support procurement strategy by assisting in hedging HSFO/VLSFO/MGO price risk.

Desired Candidate Profile

· 5+ years’ experience in dry bulk chartering/supply chain — cargo owner side, vessel owner or Operator desk

· Understanding of charter party forms including:
GENCON, BALTIME, NYPE, SOVCON, SYNACOMEX, AMWELSH

· Exposure to Panamax / Supramax / Handy / Cape markets.

· Strong network among shipowners and chartering desks worldwide.

· Knowledge of maritime regulations, safety standards and technical operations

Proficiency in using marine industry software

Technical Competencies

· Strong understanding of ship machinery systems and repair procedures

· Familiarity with tools like SeaTrade, Signal Ocean, IMOS, ShipNet, Softmar or similar

· Budgeting, cost control, and vessel performance analysis

Marine regulatory compliance including ISM, ISPS, MLC

Education

Any one of the following:

· Any Master’s or Bachelor’s degree including Maritime Studies, International Trade, Business, Logistics, Engineering or related field.

· Mariner with either Chief Mate or Second Engineer license

· MBA from reputed educational institutions
