Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The Chief Accountant serves as a cornerstone of the financial health of an organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial reporting and activities. This role involves overseeing a team of accountants and managing the accounting processes, including the preparation of financial documents, adherence to financial guidelines, and optimization of financial performance. A Chief Accountant plays a critical role in shaping financial strategies and providing insights that facilitate key business decisions. They are responsible for fostering an environment of transparency and integrity while maintaining efficient finance operations. This position also requires liaising with auditors, tax advisors, and internal stakeholders to ensure financial integrity and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the general accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance efficiency.
- Prepare financial statements, business activity reports, and forecasts to support strategic decision-making.
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting and assist with tax audits and tax returns.
- Monitor emerging financial and regulatory trends and advise the organization accordingly.
- Provide leadership, supervision, and development of accounting staff, ensuring team motivation and performance.
- Liaise with external auditors to ensure proper audit procedures and compliance.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Maintain internal controls and recommend improvements in financial and accounting operations.
- Manage budgeting processes and provide regular financial outlook assessments.
- Prepare internal and external financial reports and presentations for stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- A certified public accountant (CPA) qualification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Minimum five years of relevant accounting experience, with at least two in a supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of financial and accounting procedures, laws, and regulations.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for teamwork and stakeholder engagement.
