Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Operations & Maintenance:

· Manage and oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of all hotel systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and other mechanical systems.

· Supervise operations, maintenance, and repair of the main engine, electrical system, and auxiliary machinery to ensure that all systems function properly and ensure guest comfort and safety.

· Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure optimal equipment functionality, prevent unexpected breakdowns, and improve the lifespan of equipment.

· Respond promptly to guest and operational issues, ensuring timely resolution to maintain high service standards.

· Carry out continuous inspections to ensure guest comfort is maintained and that all services are in proper working condition, coordinating with all relevant departments.

Team Leadership & Management:

· Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor the engineering and maintenance team to ensure technical excellence and professionalism.

· Schedule and assign work for the maintenance crew to ensure proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing for effective performance of duties, keeping optimal efficiency in mind.

· Conduct performance evaluations and identify training needs to enhance staff capabilities.

· Ensure effective communication and collaboration between the engineering team and other departments.

Safety & Compliance:

· Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations, including health, safety, fire, and environmental standards.

· Regularly inspect the property to identify and address potential safety risks and hazards.

· Serve as damage control officer in case of fire, flooding, or other emergencies, minimizing damage and restoring operations swiftly.

· Maintain accurate records and logs of operation, maintenance schedules, repairs, inspections, and safety audits of propelling and auxiliary equipment.

· Maintain accurate documentation for audits, inspections, and certifications.

Budget & Resource Management:

· Prepare and manage the department’s budget, controlling costs without compromising quality.

· Implement cost-effective and efficient solutions to address operational challenges, often working within tight budgets. Leverage innovation and out-of-the-box thinking to ensure smooth operations while optimising resources.

· Monitor and manage energy and water consumption, implementing sustainability initiatives to reduce utility costs and the property’s environmental footprint.

· Maintain adequate inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring materials are readily available for smooth operations.

Project Management:

· Plan and oversee capital improvement projects, renovations, and upgrades to the property’s infrastructure.

· Direct and supervise engineering personnel in formulating plans, designs, cost estimates, and high-quality, cost-effective solutions for any engineering needs to enhance the operational efficiency of the resort.

· Collaborate with external contractors and vendors, ensuring timely project completion within budget and quality standards.

· Manage and coordinate repair works when required to maintain the highest quality standards.

Crisis Management:

· Serve as a key member of the hotel’s crisis management team, ensuring preparedness for emergencies such as power outages, fires, and natural disasters.

· Provide technical expertise and leadership during emergency situations to minimize risks and operational disruptions.

Desired Candidate Profile

Education & Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

· Minimum of 7-10 years of engineering experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role within a hotel or similar environment.

Certifications (Preferred):

· Certified Engineering Operations Executive (CEOE) or similar certification.

· Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent.

· Certifications in OSHA, NEBOSH, or fire safety are advantageous.
