Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
We are seeking a motivated and passionate Commis Pastry/Bakery to join our pastry kitchen team. In this entry-level role, you will assist in the preparation of a variety of baked goods, pastries, and desserts under the guidance of senior pastry chefs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their skills in a professional pastry and bakery environment.
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:
- Assist in the preparation of pastries, bread, cakes, cookies, and other baked goods according to established recipes and guidelines.
- Support senior chefs with mise-en-place and daily production tasks.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry and bakery workstation.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients and finished products.
- Follow hygiene and food safety standards at all times (HACCP or equivalent).
- Operate bakery equipment (mixers, ovens, dough sheeters, etc.) safely and effectively under supervision.
- Participate in the setup and breakdown of the pastry section for service.
- Learn and apply pastry techniques, processes, and presentation styles as instructed by senior chefs.
- Minimize waste and maintain quality control in all preparations.
- Assist in stock control by informing senior chefs of low inventory or expired items.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Culinary diploma or certification in Baking & Pastry from a recognized institution is preferred.
- Previous experience or internship in a pastry/bakery environment is an advantage.
- Basic understanding of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Good communication skills and a strong sense of teamwork.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
- Flexible with working hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
