Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Comply with CBAHI Standards, Public Health Authority, MOH, and other relevant regulations.
  • Ensure the functionality of the sterilizer for the appropriate disinfection process.
  • Appropriate maintenance of sterilization records including, but not limited to, sterilization time, temperature, pressure, load list, daily function test, spore test results, lot number, and name of operator.
  • Facilitate availability of personal protective equipment during decontamination
    such as heavy-duty gloves, waterproof aprons, facemask, plastic durable boots, goggles, or face shields.
  • Ensure maintenance of negative pressure in the decontamination area & positive pressure in the clean and storage area.
  • Contribute to and comply with the policies for equipment decontamination in accordance with the manufacturer s guidelines.
  • Implement policies and procedures regarding reprocessing of single-use items that define the following but are not limited to; items that can be reused, patients and conditions for reuse of single-use items, and measures taken to ensure safety and integrity including testing and maintenance by biomedical engineering.
  • Develop unit disinfection schedules that list all environmental surfaces to be cleaned accordingly.
  • Develop policies for food storage such as maintenance of sanitary conditions, separate clean/dirty utility areas & food refrigerators to be only used for food storage.
  • Devise policies and procedures on pest control that addresses the regular schedule for pest control, chemical list, MSDS, time, and place of exposure.
  • Implement a program for the safe disposal of medical waste.
  • Ensure temperature maintenance & sterilization of morgue for the preservation of dead bodies.
  • Facilitate the availability of an adequate number of hand washing facilities in each area.
  • Develop policies for sterilization of waste containers including, but not limited to; garbage containers are adequate in number and sterilized accordingly.
  • Direction for the availability of disposable & sterilized linens in the units.
  • Develops procedures for contaminated supplies retrieval and sterile supplies delivery in the units.
  • Ensure preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts.
  • Monitoring the sterilization process of instruments & equipment.
  • Develop procedures for preparation of surgical goods and instrumentation for sterilization.
  • Devise policies for water/air sterility testing & maintenance of test records.
  • Perform routine safety checks and tests on sterilizer and/or equipment while recording data correctly and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Document accidents and incidents accurately in accordance with the accreditation standards.
  • Ensure that all items are sterilized using the most appropriate sterilization method & complete documentation is maintained for all items sterilized.
  • Utilize appropriate cleaning detergents and agents for disinfection processes.
  • Devise policies for the use of chemical & biological indicators monitoring systems appropriately.
  • Ensure packaging and wrapping of instruments are always carried out in accordance with recommended practices.
  • All relevant tests and monitoring requirements are carried out when required with appropriate documentation.
  • Inspect all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage before & after sterilization.
  • Ensure all staff entering the area adhere to occupational safety and health requirements.
  • Monitor sterilization procedures and ensure compliance with accepted sterilization methods, principles, standards, and regulations.

Qualification & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor s degree/ Higher Diploma in CSSD Technology or relevant.
  • Current Registration in the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a hospital environment, including an extensive background in the CCSD department with specific involvement in quality and patient safety activities.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of regulations established by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties related to healthcare practices.
  • Demonstrate and promote exemplary documentation skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality assurance practices.
  • General overview of infections, health hazards, and safety protocols in the healthcare setting.
  • Skills to operate technology equipment and web application software related to the position.
  • Broad knowledge of CSSD principles, standards, and practices.
