Roles & Responsibilities

R and responsibility

  • The integration of gender equality aspects into the project's activities:
    • To ensure the planning, management, supervision and monitoring of activities related to gender equality;
    • Contribute to the development and deployment of the gender-based analysis (GBA+) of the project;
    • Contribute to the development of the project's gender equality (G) strategy, and ensure its implementation, monitoring and updating;
    • Participate actively in synergy with the rest of the team, in particular the animation team, the supervision of women's cooperatives;
    • Ensure that all collected data is systematically disaggregated by sex; develop the framework for information collection with other team members with a view to integrating the gender dimension;
    • To put in place the prerequisites for carrying out the surveys (the framing notes, the sampling methods, the questionnaires, the testimonies etc.) in terms of gender necessary for the implementation of the project activities and in particular the reference situations of the gender indicators and their monitoring;
    • Process and analyze the collected data and submit the corresponding reports;
    • Contribute all documents and analyses (sectoral and cross-cutting) produced by the team;
    • Participate in the development of annual work plans (AWPs), progress reports and other project deliverables, and assume the role of lead author for any section or information concerning gender equality aspects;
    • Prepare, organize and implement training, awareness-raising and capacity-building activities related to gender equality;
    • Promote synergies between the different stakeholders working to improve the economic situation of women;
    • Coordinate the integration of G into all project activities to promote positive changes in favor of increased respect for the rights of women and adolescent girls and the strengthening of their agency;
    • Coordinate work to promote the engagement of men and community leaders;
    • Strengthening the capacity of team members and partners to combat gender-based violence (GBV);
    • Define the early warning mechanisms for incidents of sexual and gender-based violence;
    • Coordinate and/or participate in local consultations and the deployment of training programs;
    • Continuously monitor the challenges and lessons learned in G with the person responsible for G at headquarters;
    • Support the development and revision of reports in order to report on the progress of results and issues related to the consideration of measures to mitigate gender inequalities identified;
    • Ensure the integration of the EG into the terms of reference, work plans and working tools of the team and project partners;
    • Any other related task deemed necessary by the team leader within the framework of the ASEFOA project.

Desired Candidate Profile

A minimum of a Master's degree (Bac+5) in sociology, communication, anthropology, or a related field; Minimum 10 years of experience in integrating gender equality considerations into development projects; Proven experience in the following areas: women's access to means of production in rural areas, women's representation in decision-making bodies, gender mainstreaming in public policies, integration of fair trade principles into marketing and improved market access, support for professional organizations, and promotion of women's economic interests; Excellent knowledge of the institutional environment of agricultural sectors in Morocco; knowledge of the argan sector is highly desirable; Excellent analytical and writing skills; Proficiency in computer tools (Office suite, Outlook, etc.). The position requires travel across the country.

Cowater is currently seeking an expert in gender equality and economic empowerment for a women's economic empowerment project in the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve (RBA) in Morocco.

The project "Socio-economic Empowerment of Women in Oasis and Argan Grove Areas" (ASEFOA), funded by Global Affairs Canada in partnership with the National Agency for Oasis and Argan Grove Areas (ANDZOA), aims to strengthen the economic power and status of women in oasis and argan grove areas in Morocco. The project includes targeted interventions focusing on (1) increasing the competitiveness and performance of women entrepreneurs and (2) strengthening a socio-cultural and institutional environment conducive to their economic empowerment. In a context of increasing environmental fragility, all these interventions will aim to build resilience to climate change.
