Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
1) Platform Engineering Leadership
Lead and manage the Platform Engineering & Architecture Unit, including software engineers, technical leads, architects, and shared engineering capabilities as the unit evolves.
Define the engineering operating model for the unit, including team structures, role clarity, delivery accountability, and technical decision-making practices.
Build a high-performance engineering culture grounded in ownership, quality, discipline, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Recruit, develop, and retain strong engineering talent aligned with AXS’s platform ambition and future scale.
2) Architecture Ownership & Technical Direction
Own the overall application and platform architecture for AXS core solutions, ensuring scalability, modularity, maintainability, performance, and security.
Define architecture principles, design standards, engineering guardrails, and approved technical patterns across backend, frontend, APIs, services, and integrations.
Lead major design and architecture decisions, including component decomposition, service boundaries, data flows, interoperability approaches, and technical trade-offs.
Ensure engineering solutions align with long-term platform strategy rather than short-term project-only decisions.
Act as the senior technical authority for engineering and architecture matters across the Platform Engineering & Architecture Unit.
3) Platform Build, Integration & API Enablement
Oversee the engineering of reusable platform capabilities, shared services, and integration layers that support current and future products.
Drive strong API-first and integration-led design practices across internal and external platform interactions.
Ensure engineering readiness for interoperability, external integrations, client onboarding needs, and future ecosystem expansion.
Guide engineering approaches for platform extensibility, configurability, and multi-client support where relevant.
4) Engineering Standards, SDLC & Release Engineering
Establish and govern engineering standards for coding, reviews, testing, documentation, branching, release management, and technical quality.
Own SDLC discipline across the Platform Engineering & Architecture Unit, ensuring consistent and scalable engineering practices from design through deployment.
Oversee release engineering practices and coordinate with Platform Operations to ensure reliable build, deployment, and production readiness.
Strengthen CI/CD maturity, engineering automation, and development workflows to improve speed, predictability, and quality.
Ensure technical debt is actively identified, prioritized, and managed.
5) Delivery Partnership & Execution
Partner closely with Product, Solutions, Delivery, AI/Data, and Platform Operations to translate business priorities into engineering plans and scalable technical solutions.
Ensure engineering commitments are realistic, well-scoped, and aligned with product roadmap priorities and implementation needs.
Monitor engineering delivery performance across milestones, dependencies, risks, and cross-unit handoffs.
Support complex client implementations and critical platform initiatives by ensuring sound engineering design and technical execution.
6) Technology Strategy & Platform Evolution
Contribute to the broader AXS technology strategy and future platform roadmap.
Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and tooling that can improve platform capability, engineering productivity, and long-term maintainability.
Identify areas where architecture modernization, engineering simplification, or standardization can improve scale and reliability.
Support the evolution of AXS from a solution-delivery model into a more mature product and platform engineering organization.
7) Governance, Risk & Quality
Ensure engineering decisions support platform resilience, security, compliance, and operational continuity in regulated environments.
Work closely with Platform Operations and governance stakeholders to ensure designs are production-ready and aligned with required controls.
Promote robust documentation, auditability, and engineering traceability for major architecture and platform decisions.
Establish quality guardrails that reduce rework, improve reliability, and strengthen long-term engineering sustainability.
Desired Candidate Profile
12–18+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5–8 years in senior engineering leadership, architecture leadership, or platform engineering leadership roles.
Proven track record leading engineering teams or engineering functions responsible for building and scaling enterprise-grade platforms or complex software products.
Strong experience owning architecture direction, engineering standards, and technical governance across multiple systems, products, or workstreams.
Demonstrated experience leading backend, frontend, API, and integration-heavy engineering environments.
Strong experience working in cloud-based engineering environments and modern SDLC/release models.
Experience operating in fast-moving, growth-stage, or transformation-oriented organizations where structure, discipline, and scalability need to be built intentionally.
Experience in healthcare, insurance, TPA platforms, or other regulated enterprise environments is strongly preferred.
Technical Background
Strong technical foundation across modern application engineering, platform architecture, APIs, distributed systems, and integration patterns.
Deep familiarity with one or more enterprise engineering stacks such as .NET, Java, Node.js, or similar, with sufficient breadth to guide diverse teams and technical decisions.
Strong understanding of frontend and application experience layers using technologies such as React, Angular, or equivalent frameworks.
Solid knowledge of microservices, service design, RESTful APIs, event-driven patterns, and enterprise integration architecture.
Experience with SQL/NoSQL data architecture, engineering patterns for scalability, and platform-oriented design approaches.
Practical knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, including deployment models, environment strategy, observability, and engineering lifecycle support.
Strong exposure to CI/CD, source control, automated testing, containerization, and release engineering practices.
Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, infrastructure-as-code, and engineering automation practices is highly valuable.
Leadership & Operating Style
Strong people leadership skills with the ability to lead senior engineers, technical leads, and architects while building a healthy engineering culture.
Excellent judgment in balancing engineering quality, delivery needs, platform sustainability, and business priorities.
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with executives, product leaders, delivery teams, operations teams, and technical stakeholders.
High ownership mindset with the ability to bring structure, clarity, and discipline into evolving environments.
Comfortable operating in ambiguity while establishing stronger platforms, processes, and standards over time.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in HealthTech, health insurance, TPA platforms, payer/provider platforms, or digital platforms in regulated sectors.
Familiarity with healthcare integrations, interoperability models, claims-related workflows, or regulated enterprise transaction environments.
Experience leading engineering in platform companies rather than only in custom project delivery environments.
Exposure to AI-enabled platform environments, data-intensive platforms, or engineering collaboration with AI/Data teams.
Cloud, architecture, or engineering certifications are a plus.
