Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

To perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of Instrument Air (IA) compressors and associated equipment at customer sites, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation. The engineer acts as the technical focal point for customers, providing high-quality service support and maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

1. Installation & Commissioning

  • Conduct site assessments prior to equipment installation.

  • Install IA compressors, dryers, filters, receivers, and control systems as per OEM standards.

  • Execute commissioning activities including start-up, functional checks, performance tests, and parameter tuning.

  • Prepare commissioning reports and handover documentation.

2. Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on IA compressors (rotary screw, reciprocating, centrifugal depending on OEM).

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control-related faults.

  • Replace or repair defective components: valves, seals, bearings, motors, filters, control panels, PLC/HMI interfaces.

  • Ensure equipment is restored to optimal performance with minimal downtime.

3. Technical Support

  • Provide onsite and remote technical guidance to customers.

  • Support root-cause analysis for recurring equipment issues.

  • Recommend spare parts, upgrades, and reliability improvements.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare service reports, job sheets, inspection checklists, and timesheets.

  • Update maintenance logs and ensure compliance with OEM service procedures.

  • Communicate findings and recommendations professionally to clients and internal teams.

5. HSE Compliance

  • Adhere to all company and client HSE policies, PTW systems, and site safety procedures.

  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), risk assessments, and toolbox talks.

  • Ensure safe execution of all field activities.

6. Customer Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary technical representative at customer sites.

  • Ensure excellent customer experience by resolving issues effectively.

  • Identify service opportunities and support aftermarket sales (spares, long-term service agreements, upgrades).

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent).

Experience

  • 3–8 years of hands-on experience in servicing IA compressors or rotating equipment.

  • Experience with major OEMs (e.g., Ingersoll Rand, Atlas Copco, Kaeser, ELGi, Sullair, etc.) preferred.

  • Field experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, power, or industrial plants is an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of compressor mechanics (rotary screw, reciprocating, or centrifugal).

  • Experience with dryers (refrigerant/heatless desiccant), filters, and condensate management systems.

  • Familiarity with PLC/HMI control systems and basic electrical troubleshooting.

  • Ability to read P&IDs, isometric drawings, wiring diagrams, and OEM manuals.

  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools (vibration measurement, thermal camera, flow/pressure meters).

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and customer-handling skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Flexibility to travel frequently and work in remote locations.

  • Time management and reporting discipline.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • OEM compressor training certifications.

  • Confined Space, H2S, First Aid, PTW awareness.

  • Electrical safety or LOTO training.

  • Offshore safety certifications (BOSIET/OPITO) — if required.
