Roles & Responsibilities
Summary of the Job Description The ED & OPD Nurse‑in‑Charge oversees nursing operations in the Emergency Department and Ambulatory Outpatient Services at The English Hospital. The role ensures safe, efficient, timely, and patient-centered care in compliance with hospital policies, JCI standards, and KRI healthcare regulations. The Nurse‑in‑Charge provides shift leadership, supervises staff, manages patient flow, maintains safety and quality standards, and acts as the primary escalation point for nursing concerns.
Key Responsibilities (Summary)
1. Shift Leadership & Clinical Oversight
Supervise and coordinate nursing activities in ED and outpatient areas.
Prepare staff schedules, assign duties based on competence, and maintain safe staffing levels.
Support clinical decision-making, guide staff, and participate in emergencies.
Ensure adherence to hospital policies and professional standards.
2. Triage & Patient Flow
Ensure accurate triage, timely patient movement, and implementation of physician orders.
Monitor overcrowding and high‑risk patients.
3. Compliance (JCI & Regulatory)
Maintain continuous accreditation readiness.
Support audits, inspections, and ensure staff compliance with policies and laws.
4. Clinical Quality & Patient Safety
Enforce patient safety goals, monitor incidents, and participate in RCA/FMEA.
Collect quality indicators and initiate corrective actions.
5. Medication & Infection Control
Ensure safe medication handling and compliance with IPC standards.
Monitor PPE use, isolation precautions, and environmental cleanliness.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Ensure accurate clinical documentation.
Submit performance and operational reports to the Nursing Director.
7. Emergency Preparedness
Check crash cart and emergency equipment readiness.
Participate in drills and code responses.
8. Patient Experience
Safeguard patient rights, handle complaints, and support discharge education.
9. Interdisciplinary Coordination
Collaborate with physicians, admissions, and other departments.
Lead handovers and participate in committees.
10. Resource Management
Ensure equipment functionality, supply availability, and maintenance coordination.
11. Professional Conduct
Promote ethical behavior, teamwork, mentorship, and continuous improvement.
12. Other Duties
Contribute to community health activities and perform tasks assigned by the Nursing Director.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; Master’s in Healthcare/Nursing/Hospital Administration or related field.
Licensure: Valid KRI nursing license; BLS and ALS certifications required.
Experience: 7–10 years of hospital nursing experience, including 2–3 years in a senior leadership role; ED experience preferred.
Skills:
Strong leadership and team‑supervision abilities
Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
Knowledge of JCI standards, patient safety, and emergency care workflows
Ability to manage patient flow and handle high‑pressure situations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with electronic health records
Languages: Fluent in English; Kurdish and Arabic are an advantage.
