Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The Junior Estimator plays a crucial role in assisting senior estimators and project managers in calculating and managing costs for construction projects. This entry-level position is ideal for those looking to build their careers in the construction or engineering industry. Working under supervision, the Junior Estimator is responsible for evaluating plans and projects, analyzing data, and preparing detailed reports. This position requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well in a team environment. Ultimately, a successful Junior Estimator will use their growing knowledge of construction processes and costs to help ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing cost estimates to aid in project budgeting decisions.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs and pricing on smaller construction projects under guidance.
- Compile and review historical data and documents for future estimates.
- Participate in project walkthroughs to gather essential information for estimates.
- Support senior estimators in analyzing specifications and related documents.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of data and records related to estimates.
- Assist in preparing and presenting bid proposals to potential clients.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive project quotes.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, and project managers for project insights.
- Update and refine estimating databases as construction cost data evolves.
- Assist in the analysis of risks and contingency planning for estimates.
- Support project tracking and change order processing to aid budget management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Some experience in a related field such as construction, preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong mathematical skills and an aptitude for complex problem-solving.
- Proficient in computer software, including Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities for team coordination.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency in work.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new projects and methodologies.
