Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- The Site Lead Mechanical Engineer will serve as a key technical person on-site for onshore gas compression plant projects in Saudi Arabia. Reporting directly to the Construction Manager, this role focuses on ensuring seamless execution of mechanical engineering aspects during construction, commissioning, and tie-in phases. The engineer will play a pivotal role in aligning site activities with Issued For Construction (IFC) documentation, optimizing work planning, resolving execution bottlenecks, and coordinating closely with the Saudi Aramco Project Management Team (PMT). This position demands hands-on involvement in site construction planning, adherence to Aramco standards, and a commitment to safety, quality, and project timelines.
Candidate’s responsibilities shall include:
- Review and interpret Issued For Construction (IFC) drawings, specifications, and technical documents for mechanical systems, ensuring all site activities align with approved designs. Identify and address any discrepancies or required modifications.
- Actively participate in detailed site construction planning, including scheduling, resource allocation, and sequencing of mechanical installations (e.g., compressors, piping, rotating equipment). Develop and maintain work plans to support efficient project progression.
- Proactively identify, analyze, and resolve bottlenecks in construction execution, such as material delays, equipment issues, or interface conflicts. Implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and maintain project momentum.
- Serve as the primary on-site liaison for mechanical engineering matters with the Saudi Aramco Project Management Team (PMT). Facilitate regular meetings, provide technical updates, and ensure alignment on project requirements, changes, and approvals.
- Lead mechanical engineering support during installation, hydrotesting, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases. Oversee activities related to gas compression systems, including reciprocating and rotary compressors, piping (metallic and non-metallic), and associated stationary/rotating equipment.
- Guide a team of mechanical engineers, inspectors, and foremen on-site. Coordinate with cross-functional departments (e.g., procurement, quality control, welding) to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Enforce compliance with Aramco standards, international codes (e.g., ASME, API), and safety protocols. Conduct site inspections, failure analyses, and post-completion reviews to uphold quality and mitigate risks.
- Coordinate procurement of long-lead items and Aramco-supplied materials. Monitor inventory, expedite deliveries, and ensure materials meet specifications for sour gas service and compression applications.
- Prepare weekly/monthly progress reports, three-month look-ahead schedules, and Management Information System (MIS) updates. Maintain comprehensive project records, including drawings, logs, correspondence, and close-out reports.
Desired Candidate Profile
- BSc/HND in mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
- The applicant must have a minimum of 15 years relevant experience on oil and gas projects , including 5 years in lead engineer role on ARAMCO MEGA EPC Project.
- Candidate to demonstrate experience of key engineering requirements gained from engineering contractor experience in brownfield construction execution.
- Experience in static equipment and rotating equipment disciplines.
- Candidate to demonstrate familiarity with all SAEP and SAES codes, standards and practices.
- Candidate to demonstrate strong coaching skills developed in multi-national projects with diverse nationalities and cultures.
