Roles & Responsibilities

JESS Primary School is seeking an outstanding, enthusiastic and driven Lead Practitioner for Teaching and Learning to start in August 2026. This position is suitable for middle and senior leaders with existing experience of leading teaching and learning from 3 - 11 years old.

The Lead Practitioner for Teaching and Learning will lead pedagogical development across JESS Primary, ensuring high-quality teaching practices that positively impact student outcomes. This role acts as a pedagogical leader, coaching individuals and teams, conducting lesson observations, and driving curriculum innovation and inspection readiness. The Lead Practitioner will model exemplary teaching, mentor colleagues, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

  • ensure that subject teaching aligns with the broader JESS strategy and supports excellent student progress.
  • develop and implement policies and practices for Teaching & Learning that reflect JESS s commitment to consistency, challenge, and inspirational lessons.
  • use current educational research to introduce and sustain evidence-based practices that enhance outcomes.
  • act as a coach and mentor for both new and experienced staff, providing expert guidance and actionable feedback to enhance pedagogy.
  • support teachers in refining their pedagogy through collaborative planning, observation, and feedback.
  • play an active role in the development of whole-school initiatives aimed at improving student engagement and achievement.
  • use school data and current research to inform and adapt teaching strategies, ensuring all plans lead to measurable improvements in student outcomes. Track progress across the school, monitoring the impact of CPD and pedagogical developments.
  • work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Year Group Leaders, Department Heads, and other leaders to conduct regular reviews of Teaching and Learning across JESS.
  • participate in internal evaluation processes, identifying areas of development for staff and /
  • supporting their professional journey.
  • plan, design, and deliver professional development sessions and workshops, ensuring all staff have access to high-quality, relevant training.
  • promote a culture of lifelong professional learning within JESS.
  • act as a mentor to support colleagues with the development of their own Teaching and Learning, where required.
  • drive curriculum innovation, including the integration of AI, HPL, Inclusive Teaching and other forward-thinking pedagogical models.
  • contribute to the School Self-Evaluation, inspection readiness, and strategic planning.
  • lead cross-campus initiatives to ensure pedagogical consistency and innovation across JESS sites.
  • relate to all in the JESS community positively and constructively.
  • have qualities which earn the trust and respect of students, staff, parents, governors and the wider community.

This role is formally embedded below the SLT structure, ensuring pedagogical voice in strategic decision-making. It will support curriculum development, innovation, and academic outcomes across Key Stages.

Desired Candidate Profile

be a fully qualified and experienced Primary Class Teacher in EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with a degree in Education and a professional teaching qualification with a minimum of 5 years teaching experience and 5 years in a leadership role.
