Technical Complexity
Procurement requires technical understanding of marine vessel specialized systems (navigation, propulsion, safety and class requirements) to evaluate accurately and avoid specification gaps or scope ambiguity, without expertise, there is high risk of misunderstanding or incomplete alignment.
Long Lead Items & Supply Chain Risk
Strategic procurement planning is required to secure timely delivery and lock in pricing for critical components such as engines, propulsion systems, navigation equipment, and specialized steel which often have long lead times and risks including delivery delays and global supply chain disruption..
Contractual & Commercial Risk
Procurement expert is required to ensure contractual protection, given the complexity of shipbuilding contracts with milestone payments, liquidated damages, and performance guarantees.
Cost Control & Budget Management
New build projects are highly sensitive and subject to change orders, an experienced procurement expert can conduct accurate cost benchmarking and negotiate effectively, minimizing risk of poor supplier selection and potential reputational damage.

Desired Candidate Profile
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification
Minimum Experience:
- 4-6 years of experience in the procurement and contracts Experience in the ship building/repair or related industry is an advantage
